Oh boy... without disks, theres not much that can be done. the OS disk has diagnostics and repair capabilities. If your computer does not have a restore partition, then your best option is call Dell and ask for restoration software. it will likely set you back a couple hundred bucks, but you might be able to negotiate a lower price.

Hi. When you get to the point of having the Task Manager open, click on "New Task" and ty this in : explorer.exe

After which, press enter and see if the start menu comes up. Also try this in safe mode if it does not work in normal mode.

If it also fails in safe mode, that means your Windows is badly corrupted and the only way to get back to normal is to reformat the computer. Cheers!

I have a dell inspiron lap top with window's vista. There is a problem with it. Even when I turn it on with safe mode it goes to the log in screen, then says welcome, and then it goes to a black screen...

Usually what happens with my Dell Inspiron desktop, even on safe mode it goes to the logon screen. I have never experienced that with my Dell Inspiron 1318. When you log in and it shows you the black screen, try pressing the function buttons. Try F8 or F12. You should be able to start the computer in Safe Mode. If possible, enter Safe Mode with Networking so that you are able to search the web. If you don't mind me asking, why is it that you need safe mode? Is it a virus?

My Inspiron 6000 no safe mode available - just blue screen

You can try repairing the windows by using a windows bootable cd, but yes I would recommend you to save your important data first for that you'll be needing a box which looks like this thumb_case3.jpg You can get this easily from the market, just say I need a External Enclosure for a Laptop Hard Disk Drive. But remember to match the type of your hard disk. It is better to take the hard disk with you.

Hope this helps, Please feel free to ask me any further.

My Dell Inspiron 6000 (which I think I bought in

Have you tried this:
1. After removing the battery
2. Press and hold the power button for at least 10 sec.
3. Put back the battery
4. Turn it on

if this doesnt work, there could be a problem with your operating system. Try accessing safe mode if you can login .TAP F8 continously on the dell logo screen, and it will open advance boot options. (Just select safe mode) If safe mode boots properly try running system restore to restore it back to the previous date where your computer is still booting to windows. Hope this helps

When i start up my dell inspirion 6000 laptop the logo comes up and then screen goes black

When you see the Dell logo, it means the system is booting and you see the splash screen that is generated on the motherboard.
Apparently this is where it is stopping.
Here's what I would do: First when you boot the computer, press F12 to get the boot options. Choose the diagnostics and run the system diagnostics.
You can also try to press F8 to get the computer into safe mode, but I'm thinking if you see nothing other than the splash screen, that may not work. If you are presented with Windows boot options, choose safe mode and do a system restore.
The last thing you can do if you have the Dell system recovery disk is try to do a repair from that CD if it allows you to do so.

Dell Inspiron blank screen

You can restore your system in your safe mode.
To use System Restore to restore Windows XP to a previous state, follow these steps:
  1. Log on to Windows as Administrator.
  2. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click System Restore. System Restore starts.
  3. On the Welcome to System Restore page, click Restore my computer to an earlier time (if it is not already selected), and then click Next.
  4. On the Select a Restore Point page, click the most recent system restore point in the On this list, click a restore point list, and then click Next.

Note A System Restore message may appear that lists configuration changes that System Restore will make. Click OK.
  5. On the Confirm Restore Point Selection page, click Next. System Restore restores the previous Windows XP configuration, and then restarts the computer.
  6. Log on to the computer as Administrator. The System Restore Restoration Complete page is displayed.
  7. Click OK.
If you successfully restored your computer to a previous state, and the computer is performing as it should be, you are finished.

Your PC is not completing bootup. It's not the display, it's Windows.

Try booting to Safe Mode (F8) and running System Restore to a time before the issue cropped up. That should get the PC running again.
