Here's one general startup troubleshooter.
There's probably similar information specific to your model at the Gateway support site, if you enter your serial number and search their knowledge base for 'startup problems' or 'no boot'.
For anything more specific, we need to know what OS you're running. Have you tried Last known good configuration?
Were you getting any errors or problems before this occurred?
Sometimes this is related to system memory. Try reseating your ram or removing it one stick at a time.
Or, you can try booting from your recovery cd or windows installation disk and using the recovery console to run chkdsk, or other tools, to repair your windows installation. But again, helps us to know what os.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!

When the System comes back on in Safe Mode, all unnecessary utilities are shut down or do not work, such as your speakers or the sound. If you open Safe Mode with Networking, than you are connected to a Network, but you still can only do a few tasks that Safe Mode allows. After you restart your computer and run it normally, than all functions will return to their normal operations, including your speakers and sound.

First try starting your computer in safe mode. Power down, then hit power button and tapping F8 will get you to this option window. You can also choose safe mode with networking. While in this mode check for any new updates. If you installed new software or hardware uninstall these. Try restarting computer. If this doesn't work and you have a recovery disk put it in while computer is on and then restart.

Aspire 5475 freezes on startup

It is most certainly a driver, but if you cant access the safe mode also that could be a hardware issue.. Try to troubleshoot with a windows installation cd. Put it in and boot the pc. It will start the windows instalation, you choose repair computer and not install windows. The command prompt will open, try to troubleshoot from there.. Thanks!

· click OK button

My 19 " LG Monitor

If you have a problem getting into safe mode using windows Vista or 7, boot up your computer. As soon as it tries to start windows turn off the power. When you try to start it again it should come up with a menu asking if you want to use safe mode or boot normally. Select safe mode.

When i turn it on it goes onto a screen where it says start windows normally, but when i press enter nothing happens

When this happens to me, I restart the computer and as it starts, I go into safe mode by pressing the F8 key numerous times. Do this as soon as you reboot the computer (but before you get the Windows splash screen.
Many times if you go into safe mode and the restart the computer, the problem is solved. If this does not fix it, restart, get into safe mode, and then do a system restore. Go back in time to a place where Windows was working.

If this doesn't work try the fix listed below:

When i turn my computer on it says it is on save mode and to hit any key but when i do nothing happens.

You probably mean "Safe Mode" -- it is a restricted-functionality version of Windows, designed to be used when trouble-shooting because Windows will not start normally.

Press the SPACE bar, or click on the 'OK'.

But, the big question is why is Windows starting in "Safe Mode"?
Just shutdown, and restart, and see if it will restart in "Normal" mode.

Hello I wonder if you can help. When we switch

Had a similar problem like this several times. Try choosing safe mode. Safe mode will load the required drivers. After safe mode finishes the loading process, restart your computer and choose to start windows normally. The problem you mention usually happens when the computer is turned off without using normal shut down procedures. Also happens when you have a sudden power outage.

Computer starts normally then I get a gray page

If you have any windows xp bootable cd use that to fix the problem by running the command chkdsk /r/f or you can try with this just restart the system in safe mode with command prompt and type the command like c:\windows>chkdsk
And
c:\windows>chkdsk /r/f
