Re: My Garmin has stopped finding destinations - just...

I had the same problem with my Nuvi 310. Found a solution in here that works. Here's a copy of the advice.....note you will need to get in the car and set it for a destination and go. 5-10 mins later the Garmin Nuvi will lose the satellites, but don't adjust it it, leave it on and keep going. Eventually after about an hour it will right itself, pick up the satellites and evrything will be back to normal.

Here's the advice:

I experienced the same problem about acquiring satellite signal even when it's a clear sunny day. After 30 mintues, it was still searching!
The unit appeared to have "stuck" in this acquiring mode. The following worked for me:
1) open the GPS antenna
2) press the bottom left screen while holding the power button to turn the unit on
3) enter maintenace mode
4) select diagnostics
5) clear error report, do NOT clear any user data
6) restart unit the usual way

My GPS 350 was able to acquire satellite signal in less than 1 minute after the above steps were taken.

Hmmm, sounds like the aerial connector. Sometimes not folding the aerial out all the way sorts it out. I've always found this connector a bit tacky....try it first though

Distance to intersection or destination is off by 20-30 meters, how can I correct this?

connect your gps to your computer and run the garmin web updater program (free from garmin).
Make sure you have all the firmware updates as every now and again they readjust the satellite information to correct position errors.

Hi 2 questions please. What is the stop (x in the red symbol) for it apears bottom left corner next to the detour symbol. second what are the loaded pictures for. Thanks. Paul sr

The Stop X red symbol is for cancelling the destination you have entered. When you have pressed GO, if you change your mind and decide you don't want to go there you press stop and it stops giving you directions. You can then enter a new destination.

The loaded pictures are photos of locations. You can use photos to set where you want to go.

The full manual is available from and will explain how to use the photos to find locations.

My Garmin cannot find the lake house. Directions

You may need to update your maps. If they are up to date (2010) then its just bad data from Navteq. You can add the waypoint in your nuvi and custom name it which would provide better results.

Garmin nuvi 705 won't power up

probably a bad piece in the hardware (power supply). these come with a 1 year warrenty. I would contact garmin and have them take a look (they will replace it most likely)

I am trying to put in multiple destinations for the same trip. When I try to put in my second destination it keeps going back to my home site not my first destination. It starts the trip for my second...

The Nuvi you have does not support multiple destinations in a route. you can have 1 destination and 1 via point. So if you are going to a destination and you need to add a stop in the route, you can add the 2nd point to go to and then continue to the original destination.

Searching for satellite but never finds - what is wrong?

I had one like that last year, I found if I lied to it when it asked what state I was in, then it would find the satellites and work fine ... until the next time you turned it on. That one was fixed by installing new v7.2 firmware using Garmin WebUpdater through the USB port.

I've got one right now that won't find the satellites and the firmware trick didn't work. That's all I've got so far. Tom.

Garmin nuvi 200 ...enter a Start and End destination!

Yes, you can enter in a specific address as follows:

Press "Where to"
Press "Address"
Select State
Spell City
Enter House Number
Enter Street
Press Save
Press Go

If your Nuvi has acquired a satellite lock, you will then be ready to go.

GPS 60 unit shows "Searching the Sky" status message all the time

The "New Location" fix above brought my GPS 60 back to full operation. I did reload the GPS software from Garmin but the recovery depended on well charged batteries and as above: turn the unit on
press MENU button
scroll to "New Location"
wait 10 minutes for the GPS to recover.
