I have come across this problem, the backlight behind the LCD dims without warning and the only way to fix this issue is replace the backlight, a very difficult repair, mine like yours was a Compaq. Most professional will opt to replace the entire screen.

Display not working

Either you have a bad lcd display(or baclighting)problem. The replacement includes both LCD and backlighting.Or Connector flat wire detached from the display. It needs qualified technical attention or DIY disassembly if you are familiar on working with cameras.Check both of the parts I mentioned and most likely you'll get back your camera working again.

Hello dear sir i have an old samsung labtop

You may have a defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom: Screen flashes on and off or displays reddish pink hue. Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal. Picture flickering with dim display or appear black. Picture flickers on and off. All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replace the CCFL lamp.
To determine if the video card or the LCD is faulty, connect an external monitor to your laptop and power the monitor up first then the laptop, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight. Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight. It could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out, this is the most likely case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

My lcd screen on my compaq presario c700 stopped working when i fired it up one day

Either bad connection/ribbon cable or screen has tanked. Could also be a display driver but very minimal chance.

Where is the backlight switch located on the hp dv5000?

The baclight for an HP laptop is at the bottom of the bezel around the LCD. There are 2 screws covered with rubber caps at the bottom of the LCD. remove the rubber caps and the screw and lift gently. The backlight is a white plastic piece aproximatly 2 inches long. This should be plugged in to a plug with two wires. sometimes they come loose.
