Are you attempting to access your own wireless router? Do you know how to access your wireless router configuration? Does your wireless router support wired connections? If so, does your computer work on the on the wired connection? What is the manufacturer and model of the wireless router, laptop computer and if a separate accessory the wireless network card?

I could probably write a book in response to your question.
Let's try a simple couple of questions first.
Have you arranged for an Internet Service Provider? Who are they and how to they provide their service cable or phone line to a broadband modem or dialup over the phone line?
Did this machine ship with one operating system and was later changed to another -- like Vista to XP or XP to Vista? If so you may be missing drivers which may mean other things in addition to the ethernet, wireless and modem are not working well.
