Question about Haier 42EP24S 42 in. EDTV-Ready Plasma Television
I have had a numbers of problems with Haier 42EP24S, also the problems mentioned in previous email. I bought the TV in Feburary of 2006 we were watchng a movie and it popped then we losted the picture in June 2006 and was able to return it and exchange it for another one before returning it a serviceman came out and said that we needed 2 different parts (modules) I called Sears and decided to exchange it was still under the Manufacturers warranty not Sears, but I still had my receipt. I was told that Haier was aware of the problem and that the TV's needed to be modified, ok why sell a TV that you know needs to be modified. TV #2 exchanged and worked from June 2006 to February 2007, same problem, service man came out order the parts; which were on back orders and has been since 2006 I never received the parts. OK now I am ferious call Sears, no luck tell me to wait on parts which are on back orders, but there is no ETA. Call managers at Haier got apologizes from them. After another 4 months without TV, I received a phone call telling me that I had a TV on the way from Haier, I got that TV # 3 in June or July 2007. November 2007 the TV is now showing red/green flashes on the screen while we are watching it the flashes occur directly in the center. So that makes an ugly picture it flashes, but you can see the picture, it is not good. I called Sears for a repairman to come out they said ok that will be 105.00 for him to come out and then you would have to pay for the parts that needed if any. I said; I have not been able to watch the TV for a solid year and there is not a warranty on it, now everything has to be paid for out of pocket. The repairman called to let me know that he was on his way, I said the problem was not visible for him to see wha the actual red/green falshes. He said then he can't identify the possible problem if it is not ther at that time, that was yesterday 12/04/07 today 12/05 the flashes are back. Haier should have everyone take there reciept back to the stores where they purchased the TV's and get their money back. Can anyone tell me how to fix the red/green flashes?
If your TV was manufactured by LG. Red and green flashes could be caused by the CTRL module. The way to tell is to remove the back and look at the boards. the initials LG will be stamped somewhere. The CTRL board is located left of center( viewing from rear) between the power and Y sustain boards. The board has several green LED`s that light up. The cure is a firmware update. However they make no provision such as a USB or CF slot for updates. Therefore a board replacement is necessary. By the way, I believe Sears has a motto " SATISFACTION GARANTEED" Hold them to it. If you go plasma go Panasonic and you wont have near as many problems. Good luck!
