I cannot set the desktop boot from CD -ROM in VIA P4M800 pro, 2the max .I set it in BIOS . but it cannot still boot from CD-rom and I have insert the win X_ CD in it alredy .It still boot from hd .Why??...

Maybe you overlook to "save and exit" the settings. Also do check the connection of the cd rom or its read capability. Do check also the disc is bootable when the CPU doesn't find boot command and system on cdrom it will find to next drive.

Hope this help.

Selecting Boot Device

If you want to boot from the IDE HD drive then you should get into BIOS and set it as the first boot device, followed by your SATA drive and CD drive. That should do the trick.

Hope this helps,

BOOT.INI default=signature (78c2dcdc)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition

I think the hard drive has no operating system on it or the MBR :Master Boot Record" is corrupt.
Try downloading "Hirens Boot CD" and burn to cd and boot from it.
It has a lot of useful Utilities on it for restoring MBR and formatting and partitioning

Boot up issues will not boot up from HD

IDE and SATA do not mix unless setup properly.
I would use the SATA one as main hard drive and set the other up as an external one on USB
Try resetting the BIOS to boot from CD
on ter lower part of boot screen will tel you the key to press to access the BIOS setup
Usually one of these keys
when in BIOS check and set to boot from CD

Boot hang after formatting of hard drive

no there isnt, you need to take it and put it in another computer as a slave drive. But you might have damaged your hard drive, you can try Hiren's boot cd from here but personally i think you might have messd up the drive.

to install as a slave
1.) find a working computer
2.) put hd in as slave (do not remove old hd)
3.) boot
4.) it will show up in my computer
5.) format and unmount drive

it the computer fails to boot ensure you got the drive connected propperly and jumpers are correct

it thats all good then your drive is damaged

How far does the Boot get? Is your keyboard active (is it polled?), do you see the BIOS boot screen? Can you access BIOS?

Can not boot from CD or HD, with BIOS screen showing, is one thing.

Can not get BIOS screen showing, is another.

Both are, can not boot from CD or HD.

System is no boot neither with cd-rom nor hard disk

Hi, Based of your post/description and assuming not hardware problem, you may have to set up the priority boot device in the BIOS to CD. This will tell your mb to look for a boot medium from the cd first. This is normally in the Advance Setup/1st Boot Device. Of course soon as installed, you have to boot from the HD next time. Good luck and kind regards.
