You will have to have the operating system on the CD to make it bootable. If you gave a hard drive that's working, I can't understand why you are trying to boot from the Cd.

HI THERE, I AM TRYING TO INSTALL A FRESH COPY OF WINDOWS ONTO A ANOTHER COMPUTER, I AM USING THE CD'S I ALWAYS USE SO THEY ARE BOOTABLE DISKS, I KEEP GETTING MESSAGE BACK "DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM...

Hello,

First you need to make sure that the CD drive is selected as the first boot device.

You can set that by going into BIOS setup by pressing Del/F2 during system startup OR during startup press F12 and select CD drive from the boot device selection menu.

Press Enter.

See if the system is able to start from the disc.

Thanks

Will not boot cannot get to safe mode if I do a recovery will I lose all data files, not going to do advanced

from my exp recovery CD is of no use at all....if ur OS is corrupted.....use a WinXP install CD and boot from that. to do that...insert the CD in the CD/dvd drive and switch on...if the boot seq in BIOS is set to CD drive then it will boot first from that else it will boot from HD...so if u can get into BIOS by pressing the F1/F2/Del key etc and change the boot seq to the foll:
1st boot CD rom
2nd boot Floppy
3rd boot HDD0

u can even just disable 2nd and 3rd apart from keeping 1st boot to CD rom
if u have more than one HD or more than one partition in ur HD then u can install a new fresh Win XP in that and once that's done then change the boot seq back to HDD0 from CDROM drive in the 1st boot order
it will get back ur machine live then u can copy all ur imp files to a pen drive or CD then once u r safe of ur data u can do a low level format of the full HD and then aprtition that as per ur requirment

Need floppy to boot in XP PRO on HD

Hi, if you can boot using xp cd then instead of going into recovery console you can elect to install xp. The cd will search for existing installations and offer to repair for you. If you are able to get this option it will not delete your programs or personal stuff. You will need your xp code and you may need to reactivate windows when finished. If it doesn't offer repair then f3 to exit so you don't overwrite your personal stuff.

Hard Drive Prevents any other windows device from loading

Hi, Mark Here.
Yes the setup on the xp install puts drivers into memory, but being an older version of windows B4 sta was out it does not have drivers to support it.

You could go to Microsoft & search for a new version of setup install drivers that includes sta, & download to thumb.
Really typical Windows Failure (driver not available freeze up or blue screen).

Selecting Boot Device

If you want to boot from the IDE HD drive then you should get into BIOS and set it as the first boot device, followed by your SATA drive and CD drive. That should do the trick.

Hope this helps,
Sai.

System is no boot neither with cd-rom nor hard disk

Hi, Based of your post/description and assuming not hardware problem, you may have to set up the priority boot device in the BIOS to CD. This will tell your mb to look for a boot medium from the cd first. This is normally in the Advance Setup/1st Boot Device. Of course soon as installed, you have to boot from the HD next time. Good luck and kind regards.
