Wireless I have had my acer extensa 5220 since november and it has been working fine with the wireless i have connected in my house and with other peoples wireless routers but recently i found that it has stopped connecting altogether and when i attempt to search for any routers it isnt finding any, like im in the middle of nowhere! This isnt only happening in my house but wherever i take it which makes me think it has something to do with the laptop it's self. Unfortunatly i know nothing about fixing laptops and so need some help...any advice would be great liz x

Re: wireless

Can you connect your computer up by wire to your wireless router? (This assumes your wireless router has ports other than the wan port for connection to your internet source.) test this to see if it works. If this is successful done please provide the information for your wireless router manufacturer and model. I am assuming you are using the built in wireless for the laptop. Otherwise I do not believe I can step you through any possible issues.

Some people turn everything off at night and then when they turn things back on everything starts powering up. If you do this, it may be the problem because you have the modem and the router starting up at the same time. If the router finishes before the modem then it will drop.

Just make sure that you turn your wireless router on after the modem had booted up. This problem also happens when you have a power outage in the house and they both boot up at the same time.

When ever you are experiencing drops, just go unplug the wireless router then plug it back after about 30 seconds.

Wireless router connection unsecured

Open a browser and type in the address bar
It'll prompt you for a username and password, if you used the Linksys Installation CD, remember the username and password that you provided. Else, leave the username blank and key in admin for the password.

Once inside the router, click the Wireless Tab then the Wireless Security sub-tab.
Enable and choose WPA Personal and provide a password for your wireless network at the WPA Shared Key section.
Click Save settings at the bottom.

Your computers will need to reconnect to your network and asked for the security password.
