This was so easy to solve it was almost embarrassing that I didn't get it. If you have the Picture Package Software (Possible to download SPVD-012v) When the camera is plugged into computer through the USB cable and turned on Play/edit mode you will notice a small button that says "FN" this is a function button. Click on Menu and scroll down to the printer looking icon. Press "EXEC" and then highlihgt "USB STREAM" and turn it on. Then boom! You are done. Stupid sony!

I had the same problem whenever i got my camcorder because i bought it from a friend and all i got was the camera. Sony offers a free dFFound New Hardware program that should come with windows and it will work its self out.

something happened to my last comment so here it is again

i had the same problem whenever i got my camcorder because i bought it from a friend and all i got was the camera. Sony offers a free driver that you can download off there website. After you download it you can plug in your camera and Microsofts Found New Hardware program that should come with windows and it will work its self out.

If the camcorder is a HC20 you will need to install the picture package software that came alongwith the camcorder.

Computer doesn't recognize camera

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo management program such as Picasa ( http://picasa.google.com ).

Hi. If your saying that you're USB is not being recognize by your computer then you should try that USB on a different machine and try if its working there, and if yes the problem is with your computer you just need to update the drivers on your computer to recognize your USB, and if not I think the USB has the hardware issue. Hope This Helps
