GE dryer shut off prematurely and now won't start

I put a load of clothes in it and it shut off way before it was supposed to. Now it won't start back up. My husband thought it was the timer and took it out but can't remember what color wires go where. I just bought this dryer used. It's only 2 years old. Please help!!!!!!

My GE Model DHDSR46EEWW is doing the same thing but will restart after a few minutes. It does it multiple times during a cycle.

We have a 2 year old GE Electric dryer that will run for 5 to 10 minutes then it will shut down and you have to wait 5 or so minutes. Is this a thermostat problem?

The GE Dryer will shut off when it overheats. Check filters and hoses. I recommend not running the dryer until you have it repaired. It could be a fire hazard.

I'm having the same problem with my GE dryer. I think that it may the safety thermostat receaching maximum temperature and shutting the dryer down.
I'm currently researching this problem now.

Permanent press cycle keeps shutting down and doesn't finish.

Hello. I don't know what make/model dryer you have but the problem could be with load size and type of clothing. The sensor bars are usually located on the front of the lint screen housing(you have to put your head in the dryer and look back to see them--they are 2 metal strips, approx 1/2" apart and at least several inches long). The damp/wet clothing keeps shorting across the strips, telling the main board to keep the dryer running. If there isn't enough of a load, the dryer may think that the clothes are dry prematurely and count down too quickly. The sensor bar technology *is not* an exact science--it works best on large loads with like clothing. For smaller loads, use time dry and adjust the temp setting accordingly. I hope I helped you.

I dry clothes then put another load in and it won`t do anything i have to wait awhile to start. What could be the problem?

sounds like a bad motor windings problem. Dryer runs then shuts down wont start up for an hour:

Gas lights up for about 5 minutes and then burns out. Try to turn on dryer again, but flame won't light. I let dryer sit for aout 30 minutes and turn on again - flame starts up, but will only last...

If the flame is shutting of before it reaches the operating temperatures the likely failure is a restricted venting system. There is a high limit thermostat that will cause the flame to shut off if there is a lack of airflow due to a restriction in the vent system. Remove the lint filter screen and clean in with soap and water. The filter may appear clean but it could have a clear film of fabric softener residue covering it causing a restriction in the air flow too. After cleaning the filter reinstall it before running the next test.

For testing purposes only, disconnect the dryer vent hose from the back of the dryer and put a normal load of clothes in the dryer and start the dryer. If the clothes dry in the normal amount of time that would confirm a restriction in the vent hose or the venting system. NOTE: Do not leave the vent hose disconnected after running the test. Reconnect the vent hose.

You will likely find the clothes drying in the normal amount of time indicating a restriction in the venting.

Heater element

Well it is supposed to cycle on and off all during the drying cycle or the clothes would be cooked! Air restrictions can cause the controls to shut down prematurely. The control is designed to shut off heat when it gets to be 160f in the machine. To test that the machines needs to be buckled up.

Automatic Dry Function Has Stopped Working

There is a humidity sensor which acts as an auto cutoff switch in most driers, as your load auto dries , it senses the change in humidty and kicks the power off. It is often shaped like a flying saucer with wire terminals on the wings. That is likely your culprit, generally located close to the element. Based on your description, I would start there. Also test a load on timed dry, but it sounds like that's your problem. Remember to unplug before looking under the hood. Post back if you need further info

Dark grease stains on the cloths after drying

Most likely a bearing failure, a seal that retains grease has given up and is spewing into the drum through a shaft opening of some kind.

If you are positive there is no grease in some of the clothes, or someone is putting it in the drum, then a seal has failed, and now that the grease is coming out, the bearing it is was supposed to lubricate is now low, and will fail prematurely, you need a service call and soon.

Dryer shuts off prematurely

The E1 code is a replace control panel code and a good way to check a sensor is to open the door with a empty machine and at the top of the opening there is a switch. Press it and start the dryer, watch the indicator for the sensor then get a wet finger and hold it across the two silver bars in the dryer, if it senses then maybe it is a mixed load or how is the machine leveled? I will lower the machine toward the sensor for better contact because after 3-5 passes the machine will assume the clothes are dry. If the sensor doesnt read then there is a question with the two mov varistors attached to a pig tail before the sensor. Here is a link to see what they look like.
