Lenovo Y510 hinge problem

My right hinge broke after a few months which was repaired under warranty. However, I am now about 6 weeks out of warranty and the same hinge has broken again. On Lenovo's Website there are hundreds of complaints about the same thing. There is a design flaw with the hinge that is an ongoing problem.

You should contact a lawyer to see if you can start a class action lawsuit. I had a problem with my toshiba laptop, and a few months later, I got a notice of a class action lawsuit, and got a 200 dollar check in the mail for a hinge defect in a laptop I used to own.

I bought a u530. I opened and closed it 5 times and on the 5th time the hinge broke. Just like that, no other damage. It is so obviously that this is a design defect that I myself will start a class action lawsuit unless they fully repair everything under warranty. Whoever designed this should be fired immediately. You connect a heavy metal frame with a plastic hinge. That's how you design an ultrabook? You gotta be kidding me. There are literally thousands of complaints about this spanning back 3 or more years. I will happily sue them for this.

In my lenovo ideapad y510 notebook, when i lift the lid, i am hearing a crack sound everytime and also i have observed a crack mark in lower cover and separation of both the cases at hinge point. please...

Hi,

I'm not sure if you're aware of this to be a known issue with Lenovo Y510. What you can do is to have the hinges replace. Lenovo offered free support for this issue because all Y510, for some reasons had this known problem and that is even though the computer was no longer under warranty. Unfortunately as I phoned them, they told me that the free repair has ended back in February 2010.

What I did was, I purchased a pair of hinges from www.lenovospareparts.com. I had it worked on by a local technician then because if I send it to their depot, I need to pay $80 initial payment plus the shipping plus the pay for the part and the labor.

The hinges just costs $18.17 plus the labor for the local tech was just $35, logically, I saved more and it just took 15 minutes for the local tech to replace it so he just asked me to wait and took my computer home.

3 of my numbers no longer work. How do I fix this?

First you need to confirm if you are still under warranty and call the Lenovo Consumer Support Hotline at 1-877-453-6686 and ask for the warranty information of your system. If you are lucky and your machine is under warranty then Lenovo will service your machine free of charge. You can also check the warranty of your machine at http://consumersupport.lenovo.com/en/warranty/Warranty.html and enter your serial number.

If you are aware that you are currently out of warranty then there is two option for you:
First, You can have Lenovo repair the keyboard and with that, there will be service charge for replacement.

Second, If you are comfortable on replacing the keyboard on your own, You can contact Lenovo and purchase a keyboard for your Lenovo Y510 on the same number. They will charge you for less than $60 overall.

Is there a recall on the Y510s? My laptop hinge

I believe there is a recall on them. That is what my extended warranty company told me. I called 18774536686 today and they are sending a box for me to mail it back to them. They did stress this is a one time fix.

Lenovo Ideapad Y510 Hinge problem

hinges take alot of stress as they have to be quite tight to hold the screen in a certain position, alot of laptops can have over tightened hinges and cause splitting in the housing. Hinges can quite often come loose.
Make sure all screws are present around the hinge area and if you can tighten up your hinges.
If the hinges are badly damage you can buy replacments for a few $ off of ebay
