My right hinge broke after a few months which was repaired under warranty. However, I am now about 6 weeks out of warranty and the same hinge has broken again. On Lenovo's Website there are hundreds of complaints about the same thing. There is a design flaw with the hinge that is an ongoing problem.
You should contact a lawyer to see if you can start a class action lawsuit. I had a problem with my toshiba laptop, and a few months later, I got a notice of a class action lawsuit, and got a 200 dollar check in the mail for a hinge defect in a laptop I used to own.
I bought a u530. I opened and closed it 5 times and on the 5th time the hinge broke. Just like that, no other damage. It is so obviously that this is a design defect that I myself will start a class action lawsuit unless they fully repair everything under warranty. Whoever designed this should be fired immediately. You connect a heavy metal frame with a plastic hinge. That's how you design an ultrabook? You gotta be kidding me. There are literally thousands of complaints about this spanning back 3 or more years. I will happily sue them for this.
