PC no longer recognises the device

My PC no longer recognises the device, despite reinstalling the software. "USB" still shows up on the device itself when I plug it in, but the PC does not know it is there. Help!

Recognition of recorder

Does the computer recognize the Olympus DS-30 being connected to it at all? If not, do you happen to have another USB cable that you could try using? Either way, you should try connecting it to a different USB port on your computer, as you might have happened to connect it to one that doesn't work.

Downloading recordings

HI a quick search reveals that Quick Link is required to transfer Voice memos to PC.

However in the Owners Manual here it dosn't mention it. (Click the link to see the PDF)

The Quick Search link there does have a menu for wav playing Software. But as a USB storage device I would suspect that when you plug it into a computer, and it does it's automatic drive install, the device should pop up as an additonal Drive in the "My Computer" window. Try opening the My Computer, and plugging the device in with the Mini USB cord you have, and see if a new drive icon pops into the window, If so, that's what you're looking for.

The Specs say the device contains four folders that can contain up to 100 files each. They're most likely WAV files.

Good luck with that.

Cannot get the IC Recorder to connect to laptop through USB cable

There are 2 possible options, one is installing the driver or if you're on vista installing the update to connect.

What you need to do is unistall the driver for the device and reinstall it using the CD.

1. With the device connected go to the control panel
2. Search "driver" in the search box at the top right hand side of the screen
3. Choose the "device manager" option. If a pop up appears just choose continue.
4. At the bottom of the list open the menu for the "Universal Serial Bus Controllors" if it is not already open.
5. Double click on the "Panasonic IC Recorder" choice to open a new menu
6. Click on the "driver" tab
7. At the bottom of the list is the "uninstall driver (Advanced)" button, click it
8. After the driver is uninstalled disconnect the device from the PC
9. Reconnect the device, and it will bring up a new pop up. Choose the "Install Driver" option, it should be the first
10. It will then ask you to insert the CD that came with the device, just insert disc 1 in to the CD tray

Vista takes over from there and installs the driver for you and now your device will show the PC on the screen.

Hope that helps!

My windows vista crashed and I had to reinstall it. All my programs were erased with the reinstall and so I am now reinstalling my speechexec pro transcribe, but it is rejecting it saying the serial no. is...

Philips SpeechExec Pro Transcribe doesn't have a serial number type licensing; it uses Dongle or SmartKey licensing, a physical device attached to a USB port on your machine.
However, if your software was version 5, and you had a SmartKey license (it is black, like a memory stick, with a red barcode), you might have downloaded the license from the SmartKey to your PC, an option which is handy to release a USB port, but which obviously proves costly if your PC crashes.

If this is the case, uninstall the software, and reinstall it; during re-installation, choose to run the SmartKey Wizard, and make sure your SmartKey is connected to the PC; the Wizard will recognise that your license has been downloaded, but it will give you a 30 days grace, during which you can use the software. Incidentally the Colour of the LED on the SmartKey will change from Amber to Red.

You then need to contact your Philips equipment provider, and explain that your PC crashed and you lost the SmartKey license in the disaster; if they are proper suppliers (MDCi or MDCe), they will ask you to send the SmartKey, and will send you a new one...

I hope this helps!!

"chk" error on screen olympus vn-4100 pc

I had a similar sounding problem my Olympus VN-5000. I would turn it on, it would show "CHK" for a few seconds, and then "ERR." This persisted despite fresh batteries. The "ERR" message reportedly means a memory error. I found a solution, which appears to reformat the memory. Try to press the STOP and DISP/MENU buttons at the same time for about 2 seconds, and then the display should show "FOR". It will supposedly erase the whole memory, but will at least make the device usable again! I hope this solution works for your model...

Make sure you have the latest update of the DSS Player Pro software. Check under Help > About Dictation Module. You should be using version 4.10.3. If not, download the latest version with the latest Vista drivers.

ICR-B130 Handheld Digital Recorder

Ha this is a greatly contested two posiblities.

1/ Are you on a business network? The most common reason for this error is because the user has mapped network drives on low drive letters e.g. mapped drives on E F G H I etc. When you connect recorder windows trys to assign the physically available drive letter. However that drive is being used by a mapped network drive so windows simply doesnt recognise the newly attched device hence the sanyo software not recognising the device.

2/ Some Dell PC's struggle to supply enough power to all USB ports so try connecting to the back of the PC or removing some USB devices and reconnect the B130.

This error cannot be produced without a recorder being connect so it recognised to a point just. Just not correctly.

USB not being recognised by pc

what can happen is that the voltage supplied to the usb port is not enough to power the recorder to transfer data, assuming you have tried other usb ports, and tried leaving other connected peripherals out connected to a usb port, it is always better to use a mains powered usb hub when connecting things like mp3 players and digital recorders as some motherboards, especially low powered units struggle with some peripherals.

Denpa drivers required for online download

Depends what OS you are using. If you are using Windows ME/2000/XP/Vista then you do not need drivers for device to be recognized by PC when it is connected via USB cable (operating system will automatically work out what drivers are needed and configure so that the PC 'sees' the device - once seen it will show up in my computer as 'removable disk' icon).
If you are using Win98 then you need to install the driver. I haven't found anywhere on the Web where the files are located but they may be on the Windows 98 CD itself (they are identified as HB_UDISK_DRIVERS).
For example, from the installation CD the full path would be:
D:\HB_UDI~1\WIN98\HB__UDISC.INF where the CD-ROM drive is called the D drive (depends on hard disk configuration).
There is another question on here where someone has posted a link to a site to download software...not sure if the device driver files are available there. Note that the drivers merely enable your PC to recognize the device - the won't be any use in encoding/decoding/editing the files; that's done by separate software programs.
Good luck. Repost if you're having no joy...I may be able to dig out my installation CD and burn/mail you a copy. I'll check back in a week or so.
