Question about Miele CatAndDog700 Bagged Canister Vacuum

Stopped working - warning light on

Yesterday while vacuuming, my Miele Cat and Dog 700 just stopped working and the warning light came on. After looking at my user manual, I thought maybe it had just overheated (although never happened before in 6 years), so I waited a while to let it cool down. 18 hours later, it still won't start - doesn't make a sound at all when pressing start button, but light comes on.
I suspect problem could have been caused by me trying to be economical with bags, as I often empty the Miele bag to prolong usage (I find bag full indicator comes on very quickly, so I empty bag out, however dust collects in bag lining).
I had a problem with low suction power previously when I used substitute paper bags, but once I switched back to Miele, and replaced/cleaned filters, problem was resolved. There didn't seem to be a decrease in power this time, machine simply stopped.
Any advice? Thanks in advance.

If I had the confidence to have a go replacing these parts myself, I might have rated this solution more highly (and I can't be sure the diagnosis is correct). The cost of the replacement parts (bearing in mind that they're often more expensive in the UK) suggests to me I should just get Miele to do the repair for £69 rather than risk doing it myself. But hanks for the suggestion!

I just purchased the Miele CatAnd Dog Vacuum on 2/4/08. I received it on

2/8/08. I put it together, read all of the directions, etc. I used it on the 8th for approximately 30 minutes. I used it again today, 2/9, a cloth sash inthe closet got sucked up into the power carpet cleaner. I turned the unit off, pulled the sash out, the machine will not work at all....I've tried to turn it on since 11 am this morning. It will not work. I've disconnected all of the hoses, etc. still nothing. I spent $799.00 on this vacuum, can you give me a solution to fix it? Thanks alot

Dear Lauren, can you please tell me where to buy these Miele parts? I have a Flamenco ii (red one). I was told by one repair shop owner that mine has the american made version of the motor (as opposed to the german made one). The diagnosis is that the Miele's motor control circuit board #04416342 is gone bad. But I was quoted $125 for this part. Seems quite expensive to me. Any idea where I can get them cheaper?
Thanks!

There is an electronic circuit board on the motor that may have gone bad and will have to replaced, part # 06836740 and sells for around $75.00, for model S516. But if this a S316, then it could be the speed control mounted on the motor, Part # 04416342 and sells for around $83.00. Both of these models are Cat Naad Dog so you need the model number berfore you order a part.

My Miele cat & dog

Will it power up without the hose attached? If it does then you have a clogged hose. If not, there is a circuit board by the motor that may be bad.
