Describe picture more fully.
top half, bottom half, half size, where is half size located on screen, what is the source for the signal ie; antennae, cable box, dvd player?, and is it a problem regardless of input source?

my lg 42in(15 months old) started only showing half a screen ,left side is black. After approx 45 mins its clears but there is a line in middle and left side is slightly out with right side. This only happened when we had sky plus installed.I called the sky engineer out ,he changed box but no different.
We have noticed that it is taking longer and longer to clear now
    any clues? thanks Jean

If picture only one side or only top or bottom set uses two boards to drive the screen, either one of them is bad or the actual display panel itself--it is the entire screen unit where the picture is displayed.

Display problem

Yes, the "PIP" is the display of multiple channels at one time. On your remote you need to go to the zoom pip button and press it, if nothing go to the meno then look up the "PIP" tab and go there to try to zoom out.

LG 42 inch Plasma Picture in Picture with SKY satellite service

PIP only works off two seperate signals, eg you cannot watch 2 sky channels at a time, you can watch sky tv and then your analogue channel using PIP or freeview, you can then swap which is to be viewed as a large picture and which is to be viewed as the smaller picture or half and half.
