Go in safe mode and adjust your display settings by right clicking on the desktop and select properties, then select settings and change the display resolution to a lower one.

I have an emachines t5082 and tried installing 2GB (2x1GB) they are a 2-pack, DDR2 6400's The board sees 1GB but when I put both in it won't even give me a boot screen or anything, just a black screen. Is...

eMachines recommends DDR2 at 533MHz.

A lot of ram memory manufacturers, state you can use DDR2 at 667MHz. (PC2-5300)

This is a logical statement due to the fact that a lot of motherboard chipsets, (Northbridge chip specifically),
will allow ONE step up in ram memory frequency rate.

You are going Two steps up.
Who told you this would work?
This is erroneous.
(Mean that in a nice sort of way)

PC 6400 is DDR2 at 800MHz.

Your eMachines T5082 motherboard uses an ATI Radeon Xpress 200 motherboard chipset.

This chipset will only support DDR2 at 667MHz at best.

Suggest you send that ram back, and get PC2-5300.

Wont load passed windows xp screen

Try holding down the "F-8" key when the emachines logo appears, see if you get a prompt for "safe mode". If you can get the system up and running in safe mode, shut it back down from the start menu. That should rewrite the boot sector and may clear the problem.

Start up problems

This looks like a monitor problem, as the refreshing rate is set to high. Please try boot your PC in safe mode and then change the refreshing rate for lower that the monitor currently has. To get to those setting you wll need right klick your mouse on emtpy space on the desktop -> choose the last tab-> press btutton "advanced". To start PC in safe mode power on / restart computer
  1. As soon as the BIOS has finished loading, begin tapping the F8 key on your keyboard. Continue to do so until the Windows Advanced Options menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
  2. Using the arrow keys on the keyboard, scroll to and select the Safe mode menu item, and then press Enter.
This not necceserly need to be F8 key, depend on Operatin System verion and the PC itself it also can be DEL or CTRL key.
