Question about Televison & Video

RCA CTC203 No Colour in the Video IN or Svideo but colour is present on tv channels.

I have an RCA TV set CTC203 i have had for approximatly 4-5 years. It has the built in Guideplus. While a few nightd back, someone was showing me how to set my REMOTE CONTROL to control the DVD player and VCR, while hitting buttons the tv all of a sudden shut it selt off. I figured it was just one of the buttons on the remote he pressed by accident.

My kids were watching a DVD movie at the same time. And when the tv was shut off, we turned it back on again and all of a sudden there was NO COLOUR in the composite video input on the back. We tried to hook it up to the SVID input and STILL NO colour.

We use the composite input only cause we have the VCR and DVD player hooked throught a switch box that has only Composite video, as there is no other way to hook the VCR to the TV set.

We tried everything to get the colour back. Resetted the Remote , by removing the batterys and reinstalling them. We unplugged the tv set over night , heck even a couple nights. and nothing. It is hard to watch DVDS in black and white.

I read on another forum some where the other night that someone else who had the same tv also had the same problem but didnt mention how it happened. And then the following post he said he got it fixed but doent mention how. I was going to respond but the posts was dated 2003 and in an archive section so i couldnt respond to it.

Is there any way to fix this, like with the remote control?! as it seems like it was a accidental combination of the remote control buttons that generated this problem?! I cant afford a new tv set at this time. and my kids lover thier cartoons. :(

Thank you in advance to anyone that can help me.

Sincerely
Justin Baker

Hi, thankyou for the response but I think you misunderstood the problem iI was trying to explain. The problem is only in the video inputs. in the back that has the no colour. There is colour in the main channels. So unhooking the DVD player and VCR didnt affect the colour in the main channels.. and also did NOT bring the colour BACk to the VIDEO inputs where the DVD player is hooked into. How wold i be able to tell if the video inputs get thier colour back if the dvd is not hooked up to it for signal source?

I dont understand how just messing with the REMOTE control would KILL the colour ONLY in the VIDEO inputs. (both SVID and COMPOSITE have no colour) and NOT the main channels? Just before hitting the bottons to make the tv go off the colour in the VIDEO INPUT source was FINE.. and GREAT colour too! Is there some kind of reset button sequnce using the remote we accidentaly stumbled on that did somethign to Video input color? and can it be reversed?!?

    Thanx again!

I didnt realize this post was here posted twice in another catagory too..I must have accidently posted this message twice.

After i posted this help request on this forum. I turned on the set and went in to the Video Source mode to watch the DVDs. i went to check my Screen settings in th emenu, to see if the colour was turned down. There WAS NO screen settings there, in the normal place. on the menu.. just audio settings. I am like this isnt right. I checked the main TV Channels menu and THAT DID HAVE the screen settings. I know the screen settings is usually in that menu in the video source as they are aloowed to set it up for brightness and colour for the video inputs source. And they are also seperate form the over all tv channel screen settings. that I do know! Cause i have set it differently in the past!. and the settings stay.

So i remembered a problem I had with the unit back when i first purchased it that the GHUIDE PLUS was completely missing from the menu like it wasnt there. So i called the RCA support since it was still under warrenty at the time and he said to keep the tv set OFF but plugged in for 3-4 days, which I did and all of a sudden on the third day the TV pops on byitself.. because of what i had previously programed in the GUIDE PLUS before it went missing... it came back and turned my set on to a programs channel :)

So taking that in to consideration of what the RCA service told me.. I left the set plugged in for three days right Well i had to remove my programming in the Guide plus cause that would keep turning it on... and last night 2 and half days later i went to check it and it was BACK.. the screen settings was back. everything was colour in the video input source. The colour was dark tho!.

So i went in to service mode and i noticed that my bias and drives were set to default .. 5 on the bias and 32 on the drives. and the raster line is dark. as well as some of the other screen settings like overscan widths..I just need to set that up. I redid the overscans sizes. and i got the colour and picture somehwat viewable. not to bad. actually but COULD be BETTER!.

I am familiar with the bias and drives.. from working on an other sanyo set I had in my shop, .. but the RCA seems different. The brighter the raster lines or to make them white the more the colour in the screen seems washed out. not vivid!

    any thoughts would be appreciative.?!

    Thank you

Try removing your vcr and dvd connections first while watching TV programs alone!. if still there are no colors then your tv have a problem!

Try using a different channel, 3 is generally the channel for video players and video games, 2 will also work sometimes 4.

Where do the white and yellow RCA cables go on my smart TV

The should go to the female colour coded RCA jacks on the TV if they are not present then your TV doesn't natively support them and you may need to buy a SCART to RCA adapter.

How to connect samsung ps50c55og to sony dav s500 home theatre system

You need a set of normal rca cables (red.yellow, white) and another single rca cable..
OPTION 1 :If you have a digital satellite receiver, Connect the 3 colour cables to the corresponding colour jacks on VIDEO 2 of your dvd player to corresponding colour jacks on the VIDEO OUT Of your digital satellite receiver...Connect the single stand alone rca cable to MONITOR OUT on your player to the VIDEO IN input of your tv..

OPTION 2 STRAIGHT TO TV: connect the 3 colour cables directly to the corresponding colour jacks on the SIDE of the tv...Connect the single stand alone rca cable to MONITOR OUT on your player to the VIDEO IN input of your tv..

OPTION 3 IF YOUR PLAYER HAS AN OPTICAL INPUT: if this is the case you can just connect a single optical cable to the optical ports on your player and tv and this will enable the sound from your tv to play through your dvd player as well

No colour

Hopefully you've already sorted this problem out, but here's my answer.

If using component video connections, you need to be careful to connect all three plugs correctly at both ends, as well as the two audio channels. That's five RCA connectors at each end.

Sounds like you have only connected the Y signal between the TV and DVD, and have missed the other two (PbCb, PrCr) which carry the colour information.

Ensure the set top box is set to the correct video out. Probably RGB if scart lead or CVBS if coax lead.

Computer TV output (RCA) - no colour

I had the same problem and nothing worked for me until I changed laptop settings to NTSC_M
So, briefly what I have: S-Video to S-Video cable, laptop (Thinkpad R51, Windows XP, with Intel(R) extreme graphics controler ) and TV set (Samsung, quite old one). The problem was that after connecting my laptop S-Video (4 pin) with S-Video (4 pin) of my TV, I had black and white (no colour) picture.
Solution is the folowing:
- connect your laptop and TV (both S-video 4 pins)
- mouse right click on your laptop desktop screen
- in the popup menu select: 'Graphics Properties'
- "Output to"
- select "TV"
- properties "NTSC_M"

keep in mind that if your are not connected to TV, Graphics Properties don't show TV as an option. So, that was very confusing for me, as I saw similar solution somewhere but was not able to find NTSC_M settings on my laptop
Good luck

RCA CTC203 No Colour in the Video IN or Svideo

It is possible that while programming the remote you got into the menu on your TV and adjusted the color control. Go back into the menu and find the controls for color, contrast, tint and etc. If the color bar is all the way to the left, then adjust it to go to the right until you get enough color. This is just one possible solution. Hope this corrects the problem.
