The number of restore points depends on the size of your drive by default but typically the system wants about 12% or a minimum of 200MB of hard drive space.
IT depends on the Capasity of your hard drive there is an space alloted for system restore and more you creat the point you will be lossing on the space on the hdd.
So think wisely ..........
You can have many, many restore points, it's only limit by the amount of diskspace configured for "restore point usage".
To configure/see the amount of diskspace assigned to "restore points", select "My Computer" on your desktop, right-lick and select "Properties". On the new window select the "System Restore" tab. On that tab press the "Settings" button to see and/or adjust the amount of storage reserved for "Restore Points".
An average restore point takes (much) less than 100MB of storage space, so each GB of reserved space is good for at least 10 restore points. 2 or 3 GB should be more than enough for most people.
Restore points are determined by how much you allocate to the hard drive...
control panel > system > system restore tab > Move slider to the right to increase the amount of the drive you allocate the restore program. Click apply and ok.
Your PC(laptop) is configured to automatically set restore points if the restore feature is activated properly in the System properties menu. The Maximum percentage of restore data that can be reserved on your drive is 12%. this will allow up-to 29 days of actual restore points, via automatic or user initiated points.
Vista OS offers seven days restore points and erase previous one. For Xp you can create more than 15 but it limited on the space occupied by it in system. Let us know if you have any further question
