Question about GE 35GT740 35" TV

1 Answer

Reduced contrast and now can't access menu to get back.

I faded the screen to have sound and no picture (was listening to a concert over a dinner party) and now can't re-access the menu (cos i can't see anything!). I've tried pushing the menu button and scrolling down with the remote to what i think are the picture controls but doesn't seem to work. Any way of resetting the TV?

Re: Reduced contrast and now can't access menu to get...

There's a master brightness potentiometer on the flyback of the TV inside.
try to tweak it slightly with your tv ON until your see some picture.

No picture total black screen

Total black screen is usually as a result of 2 things. The first being either the contrast or brightness being reduced to the lowest point. this makes the screen display to look like it is not showing anything at all.
The other being that the picture ic of the unit is blown. In this case you need to refer the unit to an expert to trace the particular ic order a replacement for it and replace it.
Hope this solution has been helpful?

12 yr. old 25" G.E. picture fading

I gotta love it when people make up answers. There is no such thing as a "contrass module". I'm assuming the poster meant "contrast". The trouble is your 12-year-old picture tube. It's gotten weak and isn't getting as bright or sharp as it used to. Picture tube manufacturers estimate the useful life of a tube at about 7 years today. There are adjustments inside that might help some, but you need a new picture tube. It's going to cost a lot more than $60 to $75 for that. You're better off replacing the TV.

Gray picture

This sounds like you have the contrast setting too high, go to your menu and find the contrast settings, and adjust to your requirement. As for the words being blurry, this could be because your tv is HD ready, and unless you view a High Definition channel then the picture will be a liitle blurred.
Hope this is of some help?

Dark screen/picture.

This 30" flat screen TV set may have a problem in the high voltage circuit of the TV set. You may be able to adjust this by taking off the back of the TV set. Look for the block where the large red wire runs up to the top of the picture tube. On this block will be two controls. one will say screen and one will say focus. Try and slowly turn the control that says screen or S on it clockwise and see if you can make the picture brighter. Turn up the control till you just start to see faint lines in the picture, then back the control down till the lines go away. If the picture does not come up when you turn this up, and all you get is a blank screen, you will need to have this set repaired by a qualified repair person. Good Luck

RCA 32V420T 32" TV

This RCA set uses the CTC187BD chassis. Look on the back of the set and to the right of the cable connector you will see 2 controls sticking out, one on top of the other. The top control is for focus and the bottom one is screen, or overall brightness. If these controls have been turned clockwise then you will have a bright, fuzzy picture with white lines (retrace lines) through it. Tune in a channel with white letters on the screen and turn the top (focus) control until the letters are crisp and sharp. Go into the menu and turn the contrast and brightness all the way down, and then turn the bottom control (screen) until you can just see the picture, just above the point where the picture is too dark to see. Go back into the menu and reset the contrast and brightness and the picture will be back to perfect.
