I know what the problem is. Its a cracked gear. When you have the top open look at the big fiber gear on top. It is common for these to crack and now it is stuck. Needs a Bernina service guy to replace it. There is one more smaller fiber gear near the handwheel inside that could be cracked also.

You may have a piece of fabric jammed under the feed dog, or you may have the bobbin installed incorrectly, causing it to jam against the needle. Check for bent needle, and clean bobbin case

Singer touchtronic 2010 creaking noise and needle jitter

The needle shudder probably has to do with the needle finding its position. Computerized machines go through a sequence, including adjusting the needle position, before they are ready to sew. My older Berninas have what is called a "Bernina burp" when first turned on. It alarms new Bernina users but experienced users don't even notice it.. Not sure how the creaking is related, but my guess is it still has an area that is hanging up when going through the start-up process.

My needle will not go up and down

hi Tamara.
you have not said the make or model.but try this.
Make sure the push your bobbin winder to the right then to the left and see if that solves the problem. Your Old Machine has a Clutch & It Needs to be Released. The Clutch is this little dial that is inside of the hand wheel. In older machines, it was used to wind the bobbin without the needle going up and down.17 Jul 2015

Why is the wheel on the right hand side of my machine very stiff when turning

the "hand wheel" on a sewing machine is meant to only advance the mechanism far enough to thread and set the needle , the motor should be used to run the machine else wise , as its turning every thing inside the machine to keep all the functions in "TimE" as models increase in there complexity there hand wheels are harder to move as more stuff needs to be kept in "time" now , also on some models the bobbin winder is directly powered by the hand wheel , if its not in use it should be disengaged completely

The hand wheel is very stiff and the foot control cannot electrically move the needle up and down either...just humms. The machine looks like it has had very little use. From the 70's and I just...

The top cover just pops open which is why there are no screws. Just push up from the front side and it should open. On older machines, this may take a little bit of force. :)

The needle will not come down and sew when the peddle is pushed or by hand. It feels like something is locked.

First remove the needle and bobbincase. Then try turning the hand wheel. If it turns easily replace the bobbincase and try turning it by hand.If it still turns easily then put in a new needle and try turning it again.Make sure the needle flat portion is on the back side.If it still turns easily it is most likely fixed.Try threading the machine and see if it sews.

Making a buttonhole on a Necchi 3204 sewing machine

Here's what the manual says:

Before sewing, fit the button-hold foot to the machine (long white plastic thing with red, ruler like markings).

Select the pattern selector dial that is solid green on the left hand side. Set the dial to "1" position. Sew the left side and raise the needle.

Select the pattern selector dial that is solid green on the top and bottom. Set the dial to "2" position. Sew 5-6 stitches and raise the needle.

Select the pattern selector dial that is solid green on the right hand side. Set the dial to "3" position. Sew the right side. Raise the needle.

Select the pattern selector dial that is solid green on the top and bottom. Set the dial to "4" position. Sew 5-6 stitches and raise the needle.

Hope that helps...
