Toshiba P200 laptop, screen flickers constantly if the top is opened past 50/60 degrees. Removed all the screws but could not separate the key board etc to check out the connections. Out of warranty. Any help would be appreciated.

From chubster to Michael. re screen problem. had to have the cable replaced, £95.00 lighter. Apparently the cable from Toshiba cost's £55.00, so if you can replace it yourself, you would save quite a bit.

The cable was worn where it enters the screen via the hinge to the monitor, obviously a problem on Toshiba's, the laptop is 2 years old.

    Hope this helps.

Broken Laptop Screen: Toshiba Satellite c670-165

As in this model?

http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptops/Toshiba-Satellite-C650-C655/remove-replace-screen.htm

The Display Assembly is laid back to a point, that you can access the two bottom screws. Isn't a direct 90 degree position with the screwdriver. More like 60 degrees.

No?

Then the Top Cover (Palm Rest Cover) has to be removed, in order to access.

Don't forget to remove ALL power. AC adapter and Battery.

When I open my laptop lid pass 90 degrees, the screen goes blank

It should be a Problem of a loose conection.
if you feel you are good to take it apart there are a lot of tutorials on the web in how to take it apart and reattach the flex cable. (maybe even change it)
otherwise take it to a laptop specialist

Laptop toshiba satellite p200 bw5 screen goes dark as if darkness/brightness was adjusted - but not Thanks

An LCD screen cannot produce enough light by itself. It needs a Backlight to help illuminate the screen.

Power for the Backlight is produced by an Inverter. An Inverter also provides power for the LCD screen.
It reduces voltage for the Backlight, and increases Voltage for the LCD screen, from the laptop's power.

Most of the time a dark LCD screen can be attributed directly to a bad Inverter. (Around 90 percent)

A Backlight is a CCFL.
Cold Cathode Fluorescent Light.
VERY similar to the fluorescent lights you see used in residential, and commercial applications.
(Homes, and businesses)
Only on a MUCH smaller scale in physical size, and needed power to operate.
When a Backlight goes bad, it just goes all at once. Not goes dark as you have stated.

(Your statement meant to me that you power on the laptop, the LCD screen shows well, then goes dark)

How to install an Inverter in a Toshiba Satellite P200 series laptop,

http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptops/toshiba-satellite-p205/take-apart-display-panel-1.htm

(You can click on each individual photo to enlarge. You are on Page 1. Page 2 is accessed at the bottom, by clicking on it. Page 1::Page 2::Find another model)

Just one of many places that offers an Inverter for your Satellite P200.

NOTE*
1) ALL power removed from the laptop before beginning.
AC adapter (Charger), and Battery.

2) The screws you will remove, may have screws that look alike, but are NOT.
Do Not mix them up.
For this reason it is suggested to use a multi-compartment container, and label the compartments for where the screws came out of.
You can use a clean egg container, and label the individual egg holders, in a pinch.

IMHO it isn't hard to perform this repair, and you can do it. Save yourself money.

I have a Toshiba P2oo Backlight goes out

The wire that connects the lid with the motherboard might be damaged, but not completely damaged as you use your screen normally, so i recommend that you check this connection.

Toshiba P200-1ee Screen fault

Hello, I have a Toshiba Satellite P200-rt2 that has the same issue. They told me that there's a part that connects to the monitor that needs to be replaced. It costs as much as the computer does. So, I have bought a new one. I want to know if there are other people with this issue. Maybe we can go to Toshiba with this issue.

Philips x57 distored / flikering screen

The problem is the pathway from the chip to the internal display. The Nvida chip has several output lines, many of which go to the external monitor but many also go to the internal display connector. I had a case recently where the screen worked fine until the customer opened the display past 90 degrees. What was actually happening was that enough presure was being applied by the internal connector to lift the mother board connector off the mother board. Apparently the factory solder job wasn't too good. We were lucky in that we used a high intensity heat source which remelted the solder on the connector. Whoever was dilligent enough to be to test your screen and cable should be able to trace the signal from the chip out.
