1 disconnect all wires, including power from the modem and router.
2 Find reset button on router usually in the back, need a pen tip or paper clip to hold it in.
3 Hold in reset for 1 min.
4 Reconnect modem first,power up.
5 Reconnect router second, power up.
Try changing the ethernet wire from the modem to the router.
So your going to have your cable coax wire to the modem. Then a ethernet wire from the modem to the router, then a ethernet wire from the router to the computer.
Sounds like you may have one wire in the wrong place.
Ok - hook the power to the Linksys - then RESET - the folded out paper clip will work. Once RESET - hook it up to your ISP provided MODEM [ You must have this service to get on the web] now unplug the Modem provided by your ISP or provider - and unplug the router. WAIT 15 seconds - then hook up the MODEM from the provider - then hook up the router - then restart the laptop - if wired it will need to be plugged in - if wireless - run your 'search for a wireless signal and you should have it.
Connect the cable from the LAN port on the DSL modem to any of the 4- LAN ports on the Linksys Swicth (not the port Labelled Internet), then from any of the remaining 4 ports then connect your computer. Also try using a cross-over cable to modem from the DSL LAN port to the Linksys.
Please describe how you have settedup your router and modem, describe the settings of both. Let us also know what modem you have and what router you have.
If you want to use the linksys, you need to connect the cable from the modem to the linksys, then use another cable to connect the computer to the linksys. If it does not work, call linksys technical support, if they cannot help try this http://technicalsupport.blog.friendster.com
all you need to do is to connect the ethernet cable to the internet port on the back of the linksys router and then plug the routers power cord into the wall and you should be ready to go.
you have to power down all three items , turn on the computer then the modem then the route if this fails hit the reset button on the modem this shoul work for ya
I have att yahoo dsl which I installed about a year ago. The process required bridging the ADSL Modem (in my case a speedstream 4100) and accepting dynamic IP addresses and configuring PPPoE on the WAN side of my Linksys router. The ATT support person walked me through the entire process over the phone even though I was comfortable with making the Linksys configuration changes as I had to do the same in China without technical support. The modem configuration was no more difficult than the router configuration as it was performed from a web browser too. The biggest warning was that to reverse the modem change (if desired) required use of a reset button because the web interface was disabled as a result of the configuration change. My advice to you especially if you are willing to attach the Linksys router to the telco modem is to contact the ATT highspeed DSL support line and see if they will walk you through it like they walked me through it. Reviewing your Linksys User's Guide and understanding the configuration of that device would probably be appreciated by the ATT Support person as well as assuring you can access the Linksys router to configure it during the call.
