The oven exhaust vents through to the stove. otherwise, the heat will build up pressure and blow the door off. ok, that was drastic. but if there is smoke to the stove, there is smoke in your oven. check to see in anything is burning.

Did a cleaning on the stove. in middle of cleaning the stove started to smoke so they hit the off button. Now the stove wont open. How do we get the stove oven door to open?

All you have to do it wait and it will unlock itself. It just gets very hot so the stoves are made to seal themselves until cool!

Oven was heating and we got HEAVY smoke....

Nothing in the elements, thermostat thermocouples are gas filled, sensors have wiring inside, nothing in the liner or insulation. You said this was a stove, and some stoves have a vent that goes up through one of the burners on the top. If you had oil splatter or drip into this it can get into your oven. We do know that some blower fans on convection ovens have a sealed oil bearing, but there would be very little oil coming out of this (drops) and you will notice your fan getting noisier or running slower in the near future. My oven made a buzzing sound, and and smoke came out form the oven. Now it wont heat up, but the top stove still works...Any ideas? Thanks

fryed switch or fryed burner
if smoke came from inside stove likely the burner is fryed
try setting oven to broil and see if it heats up
if it does replace lower burner

Stove smokes when i turn the oven on

on the oven's smooth surface you should use a razor blade and scrap off the plastic (when cooled).. if the plastic melted on the burner, you may need to replace that particular element from a local appliance part store. easy to do.

Kenmore ultra self cleaning oven or top heat

I found that the 220 plug had burned out, that was where the smoke came from. The display worked because the ground "prong" was the only one burned. Had to replace the electrical 220 socked and the electrical plug on the oven.

Excess amounts of Smoke coming out when in use

Locate where the smoke is coming from first. Run a dry test with just the stove. Many times excess smoke can be either oven cleaning chemicals burning off, or debris on the elements.
