Question about Minolta Maxxum 400si 35mm SLR Camera

Minolta Maxxum 400si is locked up

I went to put a new roll of film in my Minolta Maxxum 400si and the camera "locked up" with the word, "help" displayed. I took out the battery, replaced it, tried a different roll of film...nothing. None of the buttons work, not even the rewind button. Any ideas?

Re: Minolta Maxxum 400si is locked up

Link to your manual, it tells us that we have a winding motor problem, I would do as you have done, so I would ensure that batterys are in great shape, the only other thing I could suggest is to try to turn the winding motor by hand in case it is just locked up. Failing that I presume the motor has died and needs replacement.

Cant find the batteries for the cam

It uses a 2CR5 battery, which should be available at most electronics or office-supply stores. An online source is at

It has a Minolta A-mount lens. Any of the newer Minolta (and some Sony) lenses may be used. The older Minolta lenses for the SRT-series cannot be used.

When trying to take a picture, I got a "Help" message. Now I can't do anything at all. How do I remove it?

How do you remove the HELP message?
On Minolta cameras this often means that the film transport motor needs to be replaced. Since your 400si cannot advance film, it yells for help.

Send it to a repair shop for a new motor and a cleaning, or buy another on Ebay. The 400si bodies are cheap these days. You might even end up with an extra lens or flash.

Film won't load on Minolta 400si Maxxum Camera

My daughter took the camera to her photography teacher he was able to load the film by wrapping more film around the roller. It's not as easy to load as my Canon. I thought we had put plenty of film around it already. Oh well, it's working anyway.

Stuck in Rewind Mode

Camera is not resetting itself : remove small side pannel by the end that houses back door locking mechanism ( looking from the back it is on the left side ). you will see small slide switch that maybe dislodged . Clean and assamble correctly.
