Thanks for the reply. My system is being constantly updated with NAV and XP KB security updates.

I did't kept the system ON for two days, and then kept system using, automatically, system starting on its own, now no problem.

It needs thorough investigation. Let us think about it.

    regards, Bhanu Murthy.

If you have been connected to the internet without the proper virus software or spyware software then you may have contracted a virus or you may have spyware causing your system to automatically reboot. If you do have a virus software remove your computer from the internet after you have updated the virus software. Run the virus software to see if you have any viruses. I suggest then to look in Add/Remove programs and start uninstalling any software that you are not familiar with if the system allows you to do so.

The product key is located on the side of the desktop tower or bottom of the laptop it came with. If you bought the cd separately it will be located in the packaging. I can help further if you explain the exact problem you are experiencing.

Win 98 recovery used instead of win xp sp2. computer won't start, shows win 98 screen and stops

win XP will not use anything from a win98 program. If XP is installed you must either use the recovery discs or better, the original XP disc.

Computer restarts on shutdown

If your computer constantly restarts while you are using it, or if you are trying to shut down the computer after it has stopped unexpectedly, click to clear the Automatically restart check box. If you clear this check box, you receive an error message when the computer stops responding. This error message may describe the cause of the problem. You can also review the system log in Event Viewer to view the critical stop error that occurs when the computer restarts.

  1. Click the Start button, right-click My Computer, click Properties, click the Advanced tab, and then click Settings under Startup and Recovery.
  2. Under System Failure, view the Automatically restart check box. If the Automatically restart check box is selected, Windows automatically restarts if the computer stops unexpectedly.
