    I wanted to put a new OS on there. Can even get it to boot. Clean Like dusting???

  • websologist Dec 08, 2007

    The boot sequence was off. Its still not seeing drive 0. I couldnt load the new OS. Some hardware was incompatible. So the OS wouldnt install over it. Matrox Impression GUI is the problem hardware/software.

Sounds like HDD and Cd-Rom are jumpered wrong (If on a PATA interface cable), make sure HDD is set to master, and cd-rom set to slave, alot of the early socket 775 board (mainly abit boards) initialised a few of its devices, shut down, and then started up again to initialise the rest.. its just the bios version they are released with, if the HDD and CD rom are on SATA, make sure the SATA inteerface is not set to RAID in the bios, if it is change it to IDE or ENHANCED, in earlier boards SATA was only provided on baord for the purpose of RAID, and simply a single HDD and CD-ROM will not work. failing all this, try changing your interface cables, i cant count the amount of times i spent an hour on a computer, and realised it was only a crook cable.. hope this helps

Two main reasons why this things happen, first.. there's an error with your hardware. If you know how to diasassemble your pc, then do it. Cleaning your machine will make it work. If it doesn't, repair the operating system with your windows installer cd. Be sure to clean your cd rom or you might as well borrow or buy a new cd rom so that the installation will run smoothly

    Yes. If cleaning it won't solve it, replace your cd rom drive and make sure your windows installer is also free from dust. Dust accumulated on the windows installer prevent optical drives to read it and it cannot detect whether the cd rom is bootable or not.

  • Rodrigo Gallego Dec 05, 2007

    Be sure to use soft fabric when wiping the cd installer. If you have a sunglass cloth, that's the best one to use.

    Make sure that all cables attached to the hard disk and cd rom are securely connected to the motherboard.

I have 2 HDD's in my PC - both with Win XP Prop

Boot.ini is correct, but looks default is booting from Disk2 and partition 1 which is your G:\ 500 GB.

Try Copying boot.ini from c:\boot.ini to g:\boot.ini It might help

In your example I see missing "\" after partition(1), may be typing mistake, but in real time can generate error.

You boot.ini looks exactly same in both drive c:\ & G:\

[boot loader]
timeout=10
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(2)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(2)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="GUY DRIVE XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

Note: boot.ini will be hidden and readonly file. You need to unhide the file and remote the read only option and then only you will be able to save the boot.ini file

Hope this helps

Before I start my dell dimension 2400 computer up, I have to disconnect my usb mouse and usb keyboard because if I don't I will get these 2 errors, Primary drive 1 not found and Secondary drive 1 not...

The resolution for this is to go into the BIOS with the help of F2. Then look for the option USB Legacy devices. If it is enabled disable it or vice-a-versa. Also look for Boot from USB devices. Please disable that option. And select the first boot device to be the HDD (Internal hard drive)

How to boot from cdrom

I believe you hit F10 key to enter bios. Go to the advanced menu and select boot options. You can select in there what order the computer tries to boot from different options. You need to select boot from CD and put it in sequence before the hard drive. Most bios versions well give you a first, second, third boot device and so on. Set first device to CD rom, second to Hard drive 0, third to none unless you use a floppy drive to boot from (rare).

I cannot boot windows xp

Hi praph_wicked, normal order would be, floppy drive first, CDROM second & Primary hard disk drive third.
How ever if your bios does not comply you can always press the F8 key every two seconds & that should bring up (Please select boot device). Which will look like this;

54d9788.jpg
Choose the CDROM drive with the windows CD in it.
If you have just one CDROM drive, make sure the jumper on the back side of the CDROM is set to "Master". If you have two CDROM drives connected, set one as master & the other to slave.
If using an IDE cable for the two CDROM drives. The CDROM at the end of the data connector is to be set as master, the 2nd CDROM connects to the next IDE connector & Its jumper is set to slave.

Good luck!

I want to boot from cd to change windows from xp to 98

enter the bios set up on start up. Go to boot sequence, change 1st option to cdrom instead of main drive. Save and exit. Let it boot up, put 98 disk in cdrom. Shut down, reboot and win 98 installation will begin asking you to over write existing ops sys. Choose yes and the install should be a breeze after this. Once xp is installed, dont forget to return to the bios and change back your boot sequence to hard drive as primary /master.

CDROM Not support for 945 GCNL intel Board

Hey there shivanand, the problem you have seems to related to the bios setup. Try restarting and entering setup page when prompted (F2). Search for the boot sequence setting and enter it. Adjust your setting to have your hard drive as primary boot device. Save the changes and exit to continue setup. Hope it helps. Good Luck!

Boot sequence problem

try booting to DOS screen only by inserting a boot-able floppy disc (I use Win ME disc at this point although my system is also Win XP). Then select "boot with CD-ROM driver". It will detect your CDROM drive and assign a letter. Now insert the CD and boot from there. I have done this sequence many times with no problems.
