Question about Dell Dimension 2400 PC Desktop
1. Boot screen says cannot find primary drive 0 no boot device ???
2. When I change boot sequence to cdrom with XP sp2 it wont boot from cdrom. Screen says select boot device. I will select cdrom I can hear the rom ad hdd spinning but nothing for several minutes.
3. Powers up lights come on then powers down briefly and back up up again with beep tones.
What am I doing wrong?
Sounds like HDD and Cd-Rom are jumpered wrong (If on a PATA interface cable), make sure HDD is set to master, and cd-rom set to slave, alot of the early socket 775 board (mainly abit boards) initialised a few of its devices, shut down, and then started up again to initialise the rest.. its just the bios version they are released with, if the HDD and CD rom are on SATA, make sure the SATA inteerface is not set to RAID in the bios, if it is change it to IDE or ENHANCED, in earlier boards SATA was only provided on baord for the purpose of RAID, and simply a single HDD and CD-ROM will not work. failing all this, try changing your interface cables, i cant count the amount of times i spent an hour on a computer, and realised it was only a crook cable.. hope this helps

Two main reasons why this things happen, first.. there's an error with your hardware. If you know how to diasassemble your pc, then do it. Cleaning your machine will make it work. If it doesn't, repair the operating system with your windows installer cd. Be sure to clean your cd rom or you might as well borrow or buy a new cd rom so that the installation will run smoothly
