same exact problem. I had a hd cord pluged in, and when i unpluged it my tv picture wasnt there, but i could hear sound. Now i cant hear sound, the temp. and lamp (red) lights blink.

Similar problem. My Ultravision wouldn't come on and the "lamp" light was on. I replaced the bulb, to the tune of $275, and the TV worked last night. This morning, it would not come on and the "lamp" light was lit again.

Bob, need a little more info, on the lower right corner of the front of the tv there are lites, top one is for lamp, 2nd one down is for over temp, do any of them blink? Get back to me and we`ll try to figure this out for you, BMW Rider

Sounds like a fan issue. Cery common problem the fans tend to slow down over time and you can get a shutdown due to the fan alot of the time. Might even try blowing any dust buildup on the fan to see if that helps.
This means you need to replace the lamp in the tv. You can order them from www.partstore.com. That's where I ordered mine when I had that same problem.
This may be an issue with your color wheel where it isn't spinning up to speed at first but finally does after the 2 - 10 minutes. Fairly common in DLP TV's. This could be fixed by a qualified Hitachi Servicer. Blessings, A/V Media Tech Guy
You may have a Lamp fan that is not turning. You can verify this shining a flashlight in the Fan Exhaust housing and see if it turns when you turn the set on.
If the Lamp Fan is not turning then it is either bad, or the black plastic duct material is binding the fan. The Fan should turn freely when spun with finger. Either one has been a common problem.

a flux could cause bulb lead to come out of flux this is one thing that makes it shake
fan blade on cooling fan broke maken it shake
uneven service thats not solid can make it shake
Refer to owners manual on code of blinking lights. 2 red blinks means fan is about to fail etc.. thats just an example of course. See the manual it will tell you what the blinking means. It will also tell you if you can fix it or you need a tech.
