Question about Akai PT4799HD Rear Projection Television
I had the same problem trying to find a new screen. What I did was found a local plastics shop and had a piece of 1/8" plexy glass that has one side anti-glare. It was only $50, and its alot more durable.I had a few problems changing it though. First you have to pull the rear bottom panel lose, then the rear top. Once the screen is exposed (TAKE THIS ADVICE), put a small piece of tape on one of the top corners and mark its position. This has a two part screen and the inner one is a image magnifier and goes only one way. It took me 4 trys to reposition it right for a correct picture. Once you do this carefully unbolt the two side and top screen brackets. Make sure you dont mess with the four centering sensers. Only loosen the screws on the bottom screen bracket. Take the screen out and seperate the two screens by removing the tape around the edges. You will now discover that only the outer antiglare screen is craked. Clean the three inner sides with windex and a paper towel, then use a cotton rag or tee shirt to eliminate any particles left behind. Once you get the screen in place dont over tighten the screws they strip very easy. Since you have the tv apart you should go ahead and blow all the componits off with a keyboard cleaner, and clean the bulbs with a super soft cotton teeshirt with a small spray of the windex on it, dont spray the bulbs directly, and do the same with the mirror. Remeber that all streaks will show up on the image screen. Clean the out side of the screen after you put it back together. Oh yeah, make sure its unpluged first.
