TDK CD-RW Burner

Via IDE Drivers and TDK CDRW 12x10x32x problem

By lawyer - usenet poster

I installed a TDK CDRW today. After installing Nero, I attempted to burn a
RW CD. The process failed twice. The messages that the program generated
indicated some kind of IDE error.  So, I installed the WIN2K IDE drivers and
updated them to UDMA100 using the MS fix.  After this was accomplished I was
able to burn the CDRW at 10X.

Another problem I have encountered since installing this CDRW is that SB
Live 5.1 Platinum remote center program generates and error when starting up
during windows startup.  Additionally it will not work with this CD
installed.  If I disconnect the CDRW then remote center works just fine with
the other CD.
I have also changed the two CD master/slave settings with no affect.

Have not tried WIN98SE yet, that is my next experiment.

Any ideas on how to solve this problem is appreciated.

John

I have an abit kt7 t-bird 1 gig(oc'd to 1.1) 256 mb crucible pc-100 ram. I
just installed the same burner, tdk 12x10x32x. I have installed the via
4.29beta and the burner works like a charm, damm fast too. The 4.29 drivers
are a bit buggy to install, make sure to uninstall your old via 4-1's first
before installing the 4.29. If you have problems installing the 4.29 email
me and I'll see if I can help you. Basicly in the installation of the 4.29,
it would freeze up half way through the install. I had to do a hard boot.
Upon rebooting I got a blue screen stopping on an apg file, I forget the
name of it now in the \system32\drivers\ folder. I booted into win98,
manually copied the same file from the 4.29 folder to the \system32\drivers\
folder and the computer then booted up fine. Seems the file in question was
corrupted when my originaly froze up. Anyway if you get the blue screen it
will tell you what file it stops on. some people have reported diferent
files being corrupted.

John,
I'm not sure about the TDK CDRW, but I know Plextor says that one should use the
MS IDE drivers not VIA IDE for their CDRW.
Seems Via ide has conflicts.
You didn't mention the motherboard , but if it has via chipset and you are
posting here, I'm assuming it is Abit and that leaves only a few boards.

Also, I seem to recall reading some people having SB Live 5.1  having problems
on ABit boards.
