Can you do simple copies in b/w without probs?

If yes, you might have checked the greyscale at the printer settings.
If no, do a quality test print (pressing ink etc.). If you cant read the instructions in black, the ph or circuit board is defectiv.

5300 kodak printer black ink dont work

Inkjet printers need to be used frequently to prevent ink drying out and blocking the print head nozzles.
If the print head cleaning maintenance routine does not clear the blockages, then print head needs replacing, but it may be expensive.
It may be more cost effective to buy a later model and better printer than replace the print head.

When using the 520 cartridge it prints grey. after cleaning it prints black for only so long then reverts to grey

you are either just about out of black ink in the 520 or the cart is not flowing properly for some reason. The "grey" print would be the mix of colour inks that these printers lay under the black to make the print "blacker".
If cleaning etc doesn't help, replace the black cartridge.

good luck with it

I have a kodak ESP-3 all in one printer that has a new black, and new color ink cartridge, and the printer does not print any colors. only prints black, grey, and a litte bit of greenish tint.

Inkjet printers do not like being left unused.
The color print head may be blocked. Try several deep cleaning of the print head to see if it can clear the blocked print nozzles.
If none of this works then the print head needs to be replaced.
A new cartridge will not solve this problem.
NOTE the print head is not a cheap item, you may consider putting the money towards a new and better printer.

Can i print without color catridges

Hi,

you do need both cartridges in and with ink or the printer will not print to prevent damage to the print heads from running dry. The printer normally uses a small amount of coloured ink to "tone" blacks but if you leave it set to Black only it won't do this and in the future you should only have to replace the black cartridge.

Won't print because color cartridge is empty and l don't need color

Try changing printing preferences/properties. Click on option for color, then click on box for "black ink only" or similar. Try now. If you still cannot print after changing preferences/properties, you will need to replace color ink cartridge due to manufacturer's built-in software that prevents printing when ink is low. Great for the ink companies!!!

Prints grey not black

I solved this problem but probably not what the printer manufacturer would recommend! The reason you are just getting grey is that the black ink cartridge is either empty or dried out from non use and only the color cartridge is working. I had the same problem after being away for 5 months. I put the printer cartridge in a bowl of warm water to disolve the dried out ink on the print pad. I dried off the cartridge with a soft cloth and then it worked perfectly.
