Dear,

This router is compatible with the modem UM175 but from the manufacturer Pantech for the ISP Verizon. The modem for this router is ISP specific modem and will not work with any other ISP.

This modem is incompatible with this router. Sorry!!!!

Check the list yourself:

Hope, this helps

While tring to install my UM175 modem, I get a message that say OS not supported. What do I do?

The Verizon UM175 installation supports WinXP, WinVista, and Win7 (and you're certainly running one of these three), so the only possible problem you might be having is that you may be running Windows XP, but you're running a Service Pack level that is no longer supported. Most software packages require WinXP to have at least Service Pack 2 installed, and many installations are now requiring WinXP to have at a minimum Service Pack 3.

To determine what Service Pack you're running:
START > Control Panel > System > General (tab)

Microsoft offers "Service Packs", consisting of (free) packages of updates and bug fixes for its operating systems, which are released riddled with bugs, omissions and security holes.
To install the Windows XP service packs that may be needed to allow the Verizon UM175 modem-related software installation to proceed, visit Microsoft at:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322389

This Microsoft Knowledge Base article mentions Service Packs 1, 1a, 2, and 3, but there is also a 4th.
Windows Vista also has service packs (there are two). If you're running WinVista, the Verizon software may require both. For these Service Packs, visit Microsoft at:

Hello. I own a UM175 Pantech Alltel aircard and I've heard that, using your computer, you can turn the aircard into a wireless router that can be used to connect to the internet with various devices. I...

The UM175 is not an access point itself, you could plug it into a Craddlepoint and then connect your other devices to the Craddlepoint. Testing was down with a UM175 and a Craddlepoint here:

If your other devices happen to be computers, you can setup connection sharing and use instructions found here:

I have a pantech um 175 usb wireless modem and I don't have the set up software to activate the usb modem. I need the progamming software so I can access the internet.

That so-called "solution" is totally worthless--the link goes to Pantech PHONE website, which has absolutely NOTHING in the way of downloads, for modems or anything else. As for you, Mr. ADRideau, why don't you bother to check your link before posting it?
Sadly, I don't have any answer to the problem, wish I did because my Verizon software won't recognize my UM175.

- Verify the Internet settings of your USB modem by calling the Verizon support.

Setting up router

The Alltel must hook to a wireless source. Your D-link could be that source, but then it needs to be hooked to a source. If you have a wire coming to your house you should hook this to the Wan port on the D-link. Then your computer will hook to the d-link. It then should be setup with codes for security.

Have I confused you yet? In answer directly to your question, yes your Alltel will work with your D-link. But your D-link will then be your wireless source.

Where are you getting your signal from now?

UM175 Verizon aircard on Macbook

This solution is verified with 10.5.6
You kinda need VZ Access but only for the activiation of the modem.
1. Download VZAccess for your mac and activate your modem, just connect once with it. It will go through and activate your modem. You only have to do this once. 2. Uninstall VZAccess, I believe it is in the Help Menu of the application itself. 3. Reboot you computer. 4. Plug in your Um175, go to System Preferences/Network and if it asks you to add the Pantech USB Modem say yes, may require password. 5. Select the Pantech USB Modem and enter the following: configuration: default
Telephone Number: #777
Account Number 10digit telephone number plus vzw3g.com, ie: [email protected]
Password: vzw
6. click on Advanced 7. under the Modem Tab: Vendor: Sierra
model: CDMA
Check Enable Error correction and compression in modem
Dial Mode: Ignore Dial Tone when Dialing
Dialing: Tone
Sound Off
Click Ok then Apply and your Modem should not be setup without VZAccess Software installed.
