I have two DMC-FX3 cameras with the exact same problem, which makes me believe that maybe its a basic flaw in the durability of the hardware. More than a year ago, the first camera quit showing its screen display (everything else works normally, you just can't see anything). I live in The Philippines, and a friend brought this over from the USA as a gift. I had it taken to Manila to see if anyone there could solve the problem, and no one could.
It was discovered that, when you hold the shell open, the screen works, but if you try to close the camera body, it shorts out again.
My friend, who had upgraded to another camera, gave me a second DMC-FX3 that he had bought for himself. After more than a year of use, it is now doing exactly the same thing!
I undid the screws, and held the back away about an 8th of an inch, and the screen works. Try to close it, the screen shuts off.
The cameras have matching problems. Never dropped them or anything like that. This just happened, and I can't figure out why.
There seem to be a loose connection between the LCD and the rest of the camera. When you open the shell open the connection completes, but when you close it the connection stretches and snaps. So, please visit the service center of the brand and get it checked and rectified.
