When I turn the unit on, it shows the start-up screen - "Nuvi" but as soon as it starts to load the program, the screen goes blank. Unit does not shut down, just goes blank. I have tried the reset button but no help. Any thoughts? Thanks.
I can only select Illinois as a state. When I try to select any other the unit shuts off. When I try to enter a destination the unit shuts off.

I had the same problem. When you have your nuvi plugged into your cigarette lighter it doesn't charge. Your battery is probaly near dead. I called Garmin and they told me to plug it into my computer via the usb cable. Turn the Garmin off and let it charge for several hours. That did the trick

Good explanation you gave. More than most do. Make sure you have the latest nuvi "Firmware" then update the maps. I would start with making sure you have the latest WebUpdater on your computer before you proceed with any updates.
If a nuvi 200 is has an older version of
system software glitches may occur. The device may be missing letters
or have jumbled letters or displaying duplicate letters or strange symbols on
the address screen. To correct this you will need to update the system software
of your nuvi. You can easily do this by using Garmin’s WebUpdater
Have you installed anything lately? Do you have any sd card installed? Usually this is the cause for it to crash. There is a reset on the bottom of the nuvi, when it locks up blank, press the reset button and see what happens...
