Try to re-thread your machine it may not be in the tension dial properly. and check tension on top dial
This is the specifications for the 339rb-3. they sould be close to yours, if you can put two seperate needles in and the machine hase one hook and bobbin case then I would say you can use one needle, if you have two hooks and bobbins, I would say no, you may want to thread with one and just hand turn for a few stiches to sew hoe it reacts, leave the bobbin door open so you can watch the hook.
