Question about TV Receivers & DVRs

Visual problems with Dish Network's 622 dvr

This series of DVRs is prone to problems with freeze-framing and frame-jumping. I determined the cause is in the unit itself (as opposed to the switch or satellite dish) by monitoring a program while I recorded several minutes of it, then confirming that it recorded onto the hard drive without any of these problems. Then later, when I began to see visual problems with other live or recorded programming, I went back and watched my "safely recorded" program, and saw that it, too, now had the same visual problems.
A front panel reset or even skipping back on the remote control might (or might not) fix it, but it invariably would return.
I have encountered this problem (in various degrees of noticeability) on at least four 622 DVRs now. I keep informing Dish Network, and they keep sending me replacements.
Any advice?

Re: visual problems with Dish Network's 622 dvr

Hi funnytalkmy name is Mike Houston of DISH Network. There are a couple of things we can doto fix this problem; the first thing is to make sure all connections are handtight from the receiver to the wall. After that you will want to press the MENUbutton and press the numbers 6-1-1 on the remote key pad, and then you willwant to press the Check Switch button and the TEST button and after the test isdone you will want to exit out of all menus. Then it will require the signaland you will have a clear picture.

Hello, my name is Daniel Busa with Dish Network customer service. Whats probably causing the issue would be that either you're not getting high enough signal strength on the 61.5 satellite. Otherwise there could be an issue with the box if you swap it with another reciever in the home, and the issue follws it you'll need a new box.

Hello! Dan Busa here with DISH Network customer service. This is actually how your DVR is supposed to function. A 622 is a dual tuner reciever meaning it's capable of watching or recording two live shows at a time. When you record a show you tie up one tuner, there are two work arounds. You can get an additional dvr receiver or you can set up record preferences and have everything automatically record to tv2.

My dish DVR HD control doesn't work

You have indicated that you have a 622 DVR receiver, since this is where your posting was found. When you trying any of the DVR functions on the remote, do you get an error message (024 or 311) indicating that the function is not available at this time? If not, try unplugging the receiver for 10 seconds from the electrical outlet. This will reboot the receiver and re-acquire the satellite signal. Once the picture returns, try the DVR function. If the problem continues, please call 1-800-333-3474; we may need to replace the receiver. I hope this helps.

I lose my audio often for non-hd channels with dish 622 dvr

The problem could lie in youir HDMI cable, this is a common issue. if you swap HDMI cables and still have the same problem then bypass your A/v rec and connect your 622 direct to your tv and see if the problem persists, it it does, then your DVR needs to be replaced, you can call dish for addition troubleshooting if it is in fact your DVR.

Recorded shows/movies skip when played. Frame freezes and then jumps ahead a few seconds. Problem is progressively getting worse.

The hard drive is failing. I suggest you have it replaced before it is totally gone. When the technician comes out ensure he checks the system end to end to eliminate any other possible issues that may be conducive to a future loss of service. Dish technicians are tasked with this responsibility however a sub may not do the same. Thanks for using Fix Ya.

Unfortunately, there is no way of saving your DVR, i would ask Dish for an upgrade to a Vip series rec, for example a 622 or 722 which can allow the use of an external hard drive. it also sounds like your root problem is with the voltage in the outet your dvr in connected to, try to plug directly into wall, if it is already, have an electrician check your voltage to prevent future issues.

Remove all the External Storage devices, make sure that you Un-Plug them Completely including their Power. After Resting the Dish Receiver, Plug-In everything back on and try.
