I have same problem. I downloaded the latest webcam driver, installed it. Everything is fine, in the device manager the device are present. But when i try to load the webcam application from dell the device is not present or not installed appear.
Notice: if I try the YM webcam, the device work properly - that's mean the device driver is OK.
So the E6500 is a beautiful great notebook, with poor software.

in the device manager the Imaging devices / Integrated webcam driver is present.
"This device is working properly."

but the dell webcam manager still not find any webcam installed.

Possible that the drivers aren't installed. Go to this page for your laptop courtesy of Dell:
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&ServiceTag=&SystemID=LAT_E6500&os=WLH&osl=en&catid=&impid=
Choose the operating system you have then choose input device drivers and choose integrated webcam and install the drivers for it.
Then go into the applications and choose Webcam Software.
After you install the driver and the webcam software then open up the webcam software and it should see the webcam and you'll see yourself in the picture.
Check in the device manager whether the device driver for the webcam installed. if not, Install the same which is available with the CD/DVD given with the laptop.
