Both hard drives will need to be jumpered to a master and a slave or both have to be jumpered to cable select. normally the jumper setting are either on the label of the drives or are marked on the bottom of the drives near the jumper drives. if the setting are not shown find the drive type, model and capacity then do a google search for the drive "select the factory manufacture link" and search their site for the jumper setting of the type drive you have.

Lacie 250 gig HD will not show light on front when switched on, also no sound comes from it, it seems completly DEAD, this happened overnight, at end of night all was OK, in the morning it would not even...

the power regulator inside the external enclosure is probably dead the drive itself may still be intact, you can remove the dribe from the enclosure and run it as an internal drive if you have any free ports or you can buy a new enclosure for it and it should run fine.

What size of hdd is supported by this laptop?

This is part of the A31 specification.

Hard drive features
  • A31 standard 2.5 inch 30GB
  • A31 standard 2.5 inch 40GB
  • A31p standard 2.5 inch 60GB
  • Supports two additional hard drives which can be used concurrently to offer expanded storage
  • S.M.A.R.T technology to issue an alert if a hardware failure is pending
  • ATA Bus Interface

  • Although you can upgrade the hard drive, it is not designed to be removed and reinserted on a regular basis. Repeated and frequent removal, for purposes other than to upgrade for greater capacity, can cause damage to the system. The Ultrabay 2000 hard drive adapter is designed to provide this flexibility with a second hard drive in the Ultrabay 2000

I HAVE LAPTOP IBM THINKPAD T30 AND I WANT TO CONNECT HARD DISK 80GB OR MORE

  • Supported HDD thickness:
    • 12.5 mm for systems without the touch pad
    • 9.5mm for systems with the touch pad
  • Standard 20GB, 40GB, 60GB HDD sizes.
    Note:
    • The 60GB HDD orderable as marketing option part number 08K9688 has a height of 12.5mm and will not fit in the HDD slot of the systems with the touch pad installed. For these systems, it is only supported via the ThinkPad 2nd HDD Adapter for the Ultrabay 2000.
    • The 60GB HDD orderable as replacement service part number 08K9833 is 9.5mm.
  • Supports one additional HDD which can be used concurrently to offer expanded storage utilizing the Ultrabay 2000
  • S.M.A.R.T technology to issue an alert if a hardware failure is pending
  • ATA Bus Interface
  • 4200 or 5400 rpm
  • Although you can upgrade the HDD, it is not designed to be removed and reinserted on a regular basis. Repeated and frequent removal, for purposes other than to upgrade for greater capacity, can cause damage to the system. The Ultrabay 2000 HDD adapter is designed to provide this flexibility with a second HDD in the Ultrabay 2000 IBM says. I say if the OS recognises it and so does the BIOS, you're good. good luck, hope this helps.-jmattes p.s. I found this info on: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-42218.html

Splitting a 80 gig hdd into 2 sections

Hello douglasc, You will have to repartition your hard drive. I would suggest the use of an application called partition magic. It will allow you to partition your hard drive even though the OS is present on the system. It does this by first defragmenting your hard drive and the putting the unused sectors together and the used sectors together this way it makes the division of the sections easier. Now once the hard drive is defragmented it allows you to section the drive into different logical hard drives. Follow the instructions from the documentation and you will have a successful repartitioning. Thank you, Shuttle83
