I had the exact same prob, if the light goes green for a very short period before going red again it means theres a short on the circuit board. u can try and find the problem but because the circuitry is very small, it wont be easy to find. only other solution is to buy a new circuit board :(

unless your a circuit tech and know your way around a circuit board with a multi meter you will need to send it in to a place that will be able to work and fix it --unable to diagnose a unit would need to do a hands on ==when dropped or water damage their are to many variables that can cause problem
This is known as the yellow light of death(ironic i know). This is caused when the solder on the board melts and bridges(connects). Once this happens it shorts out the board causing the error you have now. Contact Sony and see if the unit is still under warranty.
It's a over heating issue. Make sure it isn't on carpet, in a closed
cabinet, or any other enclosed area, also make sure it isn't next to a
heating vent. Let it cool down for a few hours, and it should be ok.
got this same problem before, dropped a psp and after that it only powers on for a while and turns off.soon i found out that the main board is twisted.when i bend the psp a little bit it turns on normally, but when i release the prissure from the grip it shuts down.the best solutiion for that is to dismantle the psp and reheat the main board using a hot air machine for about 3 min.for the mother board to return to its original position.
The same problem occured to my slimline ps2. I opened it to find that the power switch inside had broken of. The only option is to get the switch soldiered back on or replace the tiny circuit board that has the switch.
