Same problem with the burning stench, but hubby ignored it for way too long and now the water won't drain out completely after wash cycle is complete AND it leaves gritty white crud on everything.

I have the same problem. THe fins on the motor are turning and the clicking sound starts the moment I close the door and initiate the cleaning process. Backside of motor (toward front) has black oily buildup on the fins. Should I attempt a removal of the motor to check?

Hi - My dishwasher 9 years old GFE GSD 3200 stopped working on wed this week 02/13/2013. Similar symptoms - water will not drain and nothing but a click and humming sound on all positions of the timer. Yesterday friday I called a repaurman who said it will cost anywhere between $200 - $250 if he comes in to fix it including all parts, etc. I thought of buying a new one for about $350 - then I thought let me try. I googled and got to this website ad a few others and followed the instructions of opeing the drain pipe below the sink and used a vacuum to suck - not much was found. Then I opened the two drain openigs inside the dishwasher - the ones at the back and found a few particels and a glass piece about 1/2 and inch - still the dishwasher wont work. Today I decided to check out te motor and pump. I followed the suggestion of rotating the motor blades and still no luck. Then I disconnected all pipes, pulled out the dishwasher in the middle of my kitchen, lay it flat on the front and opened the disposal section where there is a small blade that is connected to the spindle of the motor. With great difficulty, using scissors, a thin pin, a thin screwdriver, a thin nose plier, I tried to pull out all kinds of things like hair, wet paper, food particles, metal wire, etc. etc. After this the spindle of the motor started rotating much more freely. I then re-assembled everything and connected power and started it. Yahooo! It works as it worked before. I guess I lucked out. Just wanted to share with you good folks whose posts I have been reading since yesterday.

If the dishwasher has not been used for a few weeks, the water in the sump that goes into the pump will evaporate causing the pump to freeze up. usually you can turn the fins inside the motor to free it up. make sure the dishwasher is not on when you do this.

GE Nautilus dishwasher won't continue through cycle unless pressure is applied on door.

Hi, In reading about your dw problem, you are in need of a complete door switch assembly. You will need the full model number, and then find your nearest ge supply house to purchase the part. Hope this helps.

Dishwasher ran for an hour and was still on Start. I moved it ahead and it began to smell like something was burning. I turned it off. Should I call a repairman or just get a new one?

You can also try unplugging the unit. Then press the power button after unplugged for an hour. Then plug back in and see if machine resets itself.

Occasionally, dishwashers can run for hours, not finish washing

Won't work...smells like somethings burning....6 yrs old

Unplug unit or turn breaker off. Under unit is a silver box, remove screws to check that all wires are attached securely to unit from plug, and confirm belt is intact.

Motor does turn and smells like something burning

there is nothing that can smell like burning such as a slipping belt in dishwashers, but there is a heating element (the metal element loop at the bottom of the machine (inside where the dishes go). Check to see if a plastic item got stuck to this element. If not, then you need a professional to check the underside of machine for bad connections. Good luck, Macgivor.

Locked timer knob in GE Nautilus dishwasher

I ran into this problem earlierr today ....Check the float valve...it is a round looking device in the front (usually) of the DW...if this gets stuck it will (or may) get stuck in drain or in assist dry mode...push it up and down you should here a clicking noise. Take it out and see that there is no debris in it ...if so clean it ..and replace...then try the Dw.

I hopr this helped....good luck....thanks for rating my effort...The Fang.

This would be the motor that spins the dish washing unit in the bottom. The noise you hear might mean that the motor will need to be replaced.

GE NAUTILUS DISHWASHER

The pump motor may be stuck. If this is the case, as it often is with a GE dishwasher, you can break it loose (e.g. spin the impeller until it doesn't spring back any more). If it's not stuck, it may have something inside of the pump motor and it may need to be replaced.
