Question about Amana ATB1935HR Top Freezer Refrigerator

Buzzing sound My refrigerator started making a buzzing sound, lasting about 10 seconds, and repeating about every 2 minutes. I came home today to discover neither the fridge or freezer is working(light is on but neither are cold). Can you tell me what this is and will it be expensive to repair?

Buzzing sound started a few weeks ago for 10 seconds every 3 minutes. The fridge was working but now it does not hold the cold anymore either for the fridge or freezer.

My compressor humms for 3 seconds then stops for 30 seconds. Then repeats over and over. What is this "Hard start capacitor" that Hotuna is refering to? I'd like to try that. Thanks in Advance

My miele refrigerator makes a buzzing sound when I open the door. The sound lasts only for 1-2 seconds and the problem is inconsistent. We have the Miele K1911

The buzzing sound is the compressor trying to start. Unfortunately, it is locked up and the overload is cutting it out. It resets every couple of minutes or so. The problem is the compressor. You can try a hard start capacitor to see if it breaks loose, this is the cheap fix, otherwise it needs a new compressor, the expensive one.

Refrigerator makes a buzzing sound for 10 seconds clicks and stops making the sound. This happens every minute or so

I believe that buzzing sound is coming from the start relay and the click is the overload clicking because the compressor is trying to start but cannot because the start relay is defective, You may have a run or start capacitor bad also, Thanks Sea Breeze

Freezer thawed out in the night, makes a buzzing sound every minute or so and lasts about 10 seconds.

Hi,

Many times a freezer and/or refrigerator do not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...there are also many other things that can go wrong.

If you are hearing a clicking or buzzing then check out the last two tips.

If your refrigerator is running but warm, then...

It is making a buzzing sound

Hi,
You can start with replacing the start capacitor and relay to see if the compressor will run again, but you have about a 50 -50 chance that the compressor has gone bad and will need to be replaced....

Fridge has a buzzing sound

Sounds of the start relay is struggling to get the compressor started. In most cases the start components will need replaced to prevent further damage to compressor and loss of food storage. In these cases I always test the compressor windings to insure the compressor winding are not breaking down. I will not be able to tell you the parts you will need but it is a sure deal, work will need to be done in this area. I will need your model number to assist in parts. I will give you a helpful link on a compressor windings test. I reccomend that someone do the work soon, Thanks, Sea Breeze

Maytag fridge stops cooling, then 1-2 days later restarts on own

The buzzing is typically gonna be the compressor trying to start and failing. Am I right in saying the fridge is at least 12 or more years old?

Maytag used to use a compressor made by Tecumseh and they had a problem with starting. They would buzz and sometimes start back up. Sometimes in a few tries or a few days or never. It would continue to re try every couple minutes and last 5-10 seconds.

I would verify if it is a Tecumseh or an Embraco compressor then make your decision.

A service tech should be able to figure this out pretty easily! Normally what I would do is if I go in and it is running then I would turn it off and back on right away. the fridge will go through its restart sequence and typically make its noises then. Hopefully you are not being charged every time they come out

Compressors are the most expensive repair! and on these I always replace the discharge tube since they tend to rot out from sitting in the drain pan.

Let us know what you find!

REFRIGERATOR IS MAKING A BUZZING SOUND, not cooling

You have one of two problems going on. Your fan is spinning at hitting the sides. Or your compressor is shot which seems to be more the problem and even though it is cold the humming sound is a warning for you that the compressor is shot and it is more affordable to replace the fridge then the compressor. Sometimes compressor can cost more then the fridge.
