My problem sounds similar except the routine with mine is..thermostat calls for heat..vent blower runs, flames heats up..then the thermostat flashes PF and goes dead, then fan kicks on, then thermostat lights up again and shuts the furnace off and fans runs for a minute or two and then the fan cycles on and off and then shuts off and starts the whole process over again. I just had the hot switch ingnitor replaced and now this. I have had this unit serviced(mostly air conditioning issues) at least 5 times in the past couple months.

A constant red light (not blinking) indicates that the thermostat is not calling for heat. Of course you know it is but just to be safe, jump out R and W on the board. If it continues to do the same as you indicated, replace the board.

My electric furnace constantly runs.. no cold or hot air blowing through the vents.. red LED light blinks 4 times saying limit switch open.. how do I fix the problem?

You'll need to replace the fan limit switch. This little switch is what tells your blower when to kick on and when to shut off. It's stuck open.

Carrier troubleshooting furnace

If the thermostat isn't selected for "FAN" then the relay is stuck. In heat mode the thermostat opens the gas valve and starts the igniter and the induction motor. If the induction fan isn't running, the flame will stop.

I have a White Rodgers 50E47-843 Ignition control, my gas furnace gets the call for heat and the exhaust fan starts and runs for 1 min before the LED lights yellow for 2 seconds and then starts the hot...

A certain sequence of events has to occur to start normal operation. My furnace would start the stack blower which would then run forever without the furnace starting up. The service tech replaced the stack blower controller and the ignitor to get things running right again. Remember that some stages of startup are temperature dependent. For example, the burner has to heat the bonnet enough to close a thermal switch and turn on the main.blower.

I have a builder installed Goodman GDS80904BHA that is approximately 5 years old. Recently, when the furnace completes a heat cycle, approximately 1-2 minutes after the cycle has completed and after the...

I would guess that the fan off setting on your limit is set a little to high. If you have the manual you can see what it says about changing the running time for the fan after the burner has shut off look on the control board and you should see two switches, one to set the time for burners to fire before main blower starts and one to set time for fan to run after burners shut off. To help with the problem you are describing set fan run time up so fan wii run longer. Hope this helps. Thaks.

Coleman furnace -- fan runs, ingniter won't light,

The chances are that the furnace was running when the power went out. This will cause the high limit switch to cutout and needs to be manually reset.
You will find that switch in the blower compartment near the blower. Usually somewher near the highest point of the cabinet.
Push the little red button firmly till it clicks.
When the power goes out while the furnace is running the heat builds up because the blower shuts down immediately and causes this limit switch to cut out.
If you have a electric tester you can also follow the low voltage circuit till you find the open switch. Ther is usually a wiring schematic on the door cover of most furnaces.

I hope that this will help you to solve your problem!

Thanks for using Fixya!!

Check the filters first, then check for blockage in the return or supplies. An easy way to do this is by putting your hand in front of the vents to make sure accurate airflow is there. Your furnace has limit switches on it that detect heat, and if heat is getting trapped inside the unit to much, you will trip these switches and the blower will just run forever. Then you have to reset it or wait forever. But try those few things first. Hope this helps.

Flip the lower panel over and look for a wiring diagram. On that diagram there will be a diagnostic chart. Let me know what 5 blinks represent. Then I want you to read on.

On a call for heat, the 24 volt thermostat sends a signal to the control module. The control module will indicate a call for heat with a light on the control either blinking or remain solid depending upon model. The inducer (exhaust) blower will purge all gasses from the furnace and pressurize a pressure switch. Once the pressure switch tells the module to continue, the electronic ignition will energize and send 120 volts to the igniter. The igniter will glow and you will be able to see it if viewed thru the small inspection port. Once the igniter gets hot enough, it sends a signal to the module opening up the gas valve (24 volts). Either a pilot will come on or the burner tube will ignite then spread the flame to all burners. Lastly a safety sensor will be looking for a certain temperature within a few seconds and the furnace will continue to operate and the room air blower will turn on in a minute or two.

What could go wrong? The unit will not run if there is no signal from the thermostat (bad thermostat or broken wire), the control module does not sense a signal from the thermostat (bad control), the inducer does not energize (bad motor), the pressure switch does not close (blocked vent piping, bad switch, plugged condensate hose), the igniter does not energize (bad control, bad igniter), the gas valve does not open or there is no gas (bad gas valve, broken wire, no gas), the pilot does not light (dirty pilot), the burner does not light (bad burner, plugged orifice, not enough combustion air), the flame does not spread to each burner (bad flame spreader, dirty flame spreader, more bad burners), the flame safety sensor does not detect flame (dirty or bad flame spreader, bad flame sensor, broken wire, bad control), or the room air blower does not energize (bad fan motor, bad control).

Furnace runs OK, but blower runs again a few seconds later

Could be a defective thermostat in the plenum.
When a gas furnace shuts down the fan(blower) will run until the plenum cools to the safe range. Usually 1 and 1/2 minutes.
Intermittent operation is a defective thermostat or relay.
