formatting drive did not work. it actually could not perform the operation. when i insert the flash, my computer shows it as two removable drives (e: and f:). i can format the original drive no problem. but this mystery drive only offers 'play', 'open with', 'scan' etc. no option to delete or explore. total capacity of the mystery drive is 6mb. these things cost next to nothing nowadays, should i just toss it? worried about conficker et. al.

  • Anonymous Aug 26, 2009

Manufactures of the Flash Drives also make $$$$'s from Software vendors to install their software on the drives. What that means is that most likely you have leftovers from either the manufactures setup software, or one of the vendors. Needless to say it is harmless, but takes up space.

First backup all the data etc. off the Flash to your HDD.

Now follow this link and perform the procedures that matches your OS to completely clean the Flash.

Hope this helps.......

I would not toss it. You can still use it, but just have the annoyance.

U3 is shipped with ScanDisk Cruzer USB keys. When you installed the key, you shoudl of been prompted to setup the key. Which would install the bonus pack of software. But if you didn't, that is okay because you shouldn't be pushed into installing software you don't want.

Plug the key into your USB Port. Right Click the Icon in the bottom right task bar, and see if you have an option to format the whole key. If so, backup your data first, then format the key.

I found a link to unistalling the U3 software from your key:

    http://u3.com/support/default.aspx#CQ3

    Use option 3.......

    I hope this helps you.......

    God Bless.......

Universal serial bus virus delete

Start ->run -> type cmd -> type attrib -r -a -s -h *.* and press enter.
What this basically does is removes the read only, archive, system and hidden file attributes on the files so that the virus or the container of virus will be shown.

Within the command prompt you will run the delete command to delete these suspicious files as the are shown up, example type del Autorun.inf or del New Folder.exe.

When you have finished doing that unplug your flash drive, update your anti-virus and scan your entire system.

Last but not least plug back your flashdrive into your computer and scan it with your anti-virus.

Viruses on flash drives are usually spread because windows has the Autorun feature set automatically run by default and this needs to be disabled.

Here is the easiest and fastest way by far to disable the autorun feature.

Download Disable_autorun.reg registry key.
Click Save to your computer ->Rigt click on file -> click run
Click Yes to confirm addition to the registry

My flash drive have Gobilam_Coprp virus. How can I delete it?

If you have antivirus installed and antivirus can detect the virus, just simply right click 'scan for viruses'. then delete if prompted. Right click option may vary depending on the antivirus.
Otherwise if you don't have antivirus installed you can format your flash disk. but this will also deleting all files on your flash disk. Make backup copy of your files before formatting.

My flashdrive wont open and says that it needs to be reformatted ?!?

Hello,

exactly the same thing has happened to me before, but I was able to solve the problem using Avira Anti-virus.

Here is what you have to do to get your flash drive working again;

Install Avira Anti virus on on your computer. If you don't have Avira anti-virus software, go to www.avira.com, on the Avira home page, you will see Free download. Click on the free download. Allow the software download on your computer. Go to the location where the software was download and click on the software to have it installed on your computer.

After the Avira nti-virus has been successfully or completely installed on your computer, insert the flash drive into the USB port of your computer.

The moment the flash drive is inserted, the Anti virus will pop out with a dialogue box alerting you about virus detected on the flash drive.

Select 'Delete...", and the box might pop out over and over. Just keep selecting delete until the whole virus is deleted from the flash drive and your flash drive will be okay.

You can format the flash drive thereafter or right click on the flash drive from 'My computer' and scan the drive with Avira anti virus.

This should fix the problem you are facing presently. But if it does not solve the problem, please let me know so that I can give the next step to taking.

Your sincerely.

Error opening

I have a kingston DT10 pendrive. When you plug in the pendrive to any computer, it say the pendrive needs to format. When you click format, then it say that windows cannot format the disk. I've try large number of software such as HD Guru Low level format but it's also useless. The problems start when a virus attacking my pendrive then suddenly hidding all my files. It's not a big deal to me to open it using up level button on the winrar system. But, the problem starts when im deleting a strange folder named 3hkgj..... something like that.

Can not delete pictures on my flash drive on my mac computer

Are you sure they're not deleted? Try this procedure:
1) Connect the flash drive to the Mac's USB port.
2) Open the flash drive folder.
3) Delete any files you want.
4) Empty the wastebasket.
5) If the wastebasket is already empty (i.e. the files you deleted from the flash drive aren't in it), try to find the deleted files in the Finder and delete them manually.
6) Eject the flash drive - don't just pull it out of the USB port.
7) Put it back in, to check the deleted files really are deleted.
8) Sometimes a flash drive will create a hidden folder of deleted files, so it looks as if the files are missing, but they're still taking up space on the drive. If you find this is the case, use the Finder to track down the deleted files and delete them manually.

Hope that helps. Good luck!

Flash drive issue

Hello,
Your Cruzer Micro has what ie called U3 Smart technology. It has a small OS that can run application from the Cruzer. That OS appears in Windows explorer with the icon of a CD. In addition to that you have a regular mass storage drive.
If you click on the CD the LaunchPad of the drive launches. This allows you to run installed applications (Skype, and others), explore the drive. It is a mini operating system.
I think tou should launch it and learn how to take advantage of its functionalities. You can install Firefox, OpenOffice.org, and other software (free and otherwise), and run the software from you Cruzer. All is kept on the Cruzer: files, bookmarks, browsing history. When you leave a public computer you take all your information with you.
You can also secure it with a password, in case you lose it.
I encourage you to discover the U3 Smart technology.

Hope that this satisfies your curiosity.

Strange files on usb drive

The only thing that can make that to your flash is a virus or physical damage to your flash of which i syuspect much of the former.

Do you update your antivirus before running these clean up checks.

If your information on the flash is backed up somewhere or is not that much valuable (which i doubt ) try reformating your harddrive.

If reformatting does not work then it means your flash was physically damaged.
