How to Load Vista or Win7 on a Toshiba Portege M400?

follow this steps
  1. You will find out that when booting your M400 from the Vista or Win 7 DVD, the setup program will not find your hard disk(s) The M400 has a SATA-RAID controller that doesn't have a "Vista Ready" driver! Use this driver
  2. Unzip the driver to a USB Memory stick and keep it ready for the disk management panel during setup
    • Use your Vista or Win7 DVD to boot
    • Stick the USB memory stick into any left hand USB port on your M400. you might have to try both ports until it is recognized by the setup
  3. Point to the memory stick when setup program ask you to load an external driver.
  4. Load the driver from USB Stick.
    • You should see the disk/partitions and should be ready to move forward in the installation process

Deleted partition on asus eee pc900

If you set the bios to boot from USB. Place your USB Bootable stick into the USB socket and boot from it.
Windows will find the hdd and format it before putting Windows on it.
What has happened is the hdd name is missing from the system and it requires initializing before you can see it.

E machines em250 wont boot

what sort of error message does this come with?
or does it just fail to load the OS, if so it might be a case of reinstalling windows (if you use that)

to make sure you don't loose your files build a knoppix live CD/DVD/USB (plenty of guides to help you with this) once you've done this go into the BIOS and change the boot order to whatever media you have it installed on to first so lets say USB it will look sort of like

1. USB
2. HDD
3. CD/DVD
4. Network Boot

so once it boots navigate to the HDD and you should be able to access all files now just begin copying the ones you want to keep

I transferred a recovery disc to my usb stick on my ibm computor for my laptop and now it wont load windows just the acer aspire screen comes up????

thats right when a computer starts up it only has a few places to look for a boot record like the hard drive or floppy nic or cd-rom. The reason this wont work for is because there are no usb drivers they load up after the OS is loaded. you need a cdrom sorry

please vote me 10 for this solution

Set up did not find any hard disk drivers installed on computer

Your notebook has SATA hdd. Got into the bios (keep pressing F2 key on startup) then in the bios screen find HDD and press enter. Select IDE mode. Press f10 to save changes and exit. When this is done install XP.
Alternatively connect external usb floppy drive and unzip sata drivers into that. When booting from xp cd press f6 to load drivers.Follow onscreen instructions to load drivers and continue xp installation.
Please let me know if issue not solved for futher ts steps.
thanx

Optical mouse stops working then starts again

Hello faust_4456,

Make sure that the mouse is secure in the USB socket also check the cable to make sure it is not damaged, also in your BIOS make sure that the USB ports are enabled on system boot up so that the BIOS loads its information into the Kernel rather then the OS Drivers loading the USB information at OS boot-up. This has helped me avoid a lot of USB issues.

I hope this helps,

Thank you,

Dell Latitude D800- Keyboard and mouse stop working when undocked.

First update any drivers for your dell.

www.support.dell.com

Is the dock a dell dock, or a universal Dock?

the drivers may need updating.

Some times when you plug a dock in, and turn it on, they will load them into the drivers and when you unplug it, it gets confused and when you boot it up it has to re-install the original drivers and does this while its booting.

This happens alot with the GX620 desktops. If you pull a USB keyboard out while its off and plug it back into a different USB port and tun it on. It wont work right away.

We end up having to let it sit at the login screen for a while till it reloads the drivers to the new USB port.

You will know if yours is doing this as the Hard drive light will be flickering and running.

Try booting it up and letting it load windows and waiting a few minutes.
