MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A SOLID, STRONG GROUND CONNECTION BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE!!!!!
Make sure you are using the proper gauge wiring for your amp.
Is the amp set up in bridged mode? What is the impedance (Ohms) of the Rockford Fosgate 12? If the impedance of the speaker is different from the impedance for the amp in bridged mode, it WILL get hot and cut off. Also, if you overdrive the amp, the same will happen.
The amp is stable :
75 watts RMS x 4 channels at 4 ohms
100 watts RMS x 4 channels at 2 ohms
200 watts RMS x 2 channels bridged at 4 ohms
300 peak watts x 2 channels bridged at 4 ohms
Also, what model is the subwoofer? What are the specs? Is it single or dual voice coil?
You can most likely mount a cooling fan on the amp and have it turn on using the remote sensor wire. If the amp still cuts out, you're overdriving it.

what would be the best amp for 2 12 inch volfenhang subs. now i have a 4 gage wire for both power and ground, and the 18 gage i think for remote or what ever the standard is for that, the radio is stock monsoon for a grand dam gt 03, the last amp i had in the was a kicker zx.400.1 and it ran them fine for the brake in period and now just protect mode? i have check ever wire their was wired up and i rewired some of the shity job done by circuit city. well i pulled the amp to see if its just to cold and im gonna re-hook it back up tomorrow and if it dont work their someone else is car and if its just something wrong in my car i guess back to square one.
