I have the same problem and the tray door will not open unless you manually pry it open. It tries to open but just clicks repeatedly.

ALMOST the same problem - it says it's loading for two days, then manages to read a disk. This always happens after a disk/screen "freeze"

Same deal here. My Toshiba SD5000 works fine for a while, but then when I load the DVD is just says "loading..." and never loads the DVD. Unplugging it and plugging it back in used to help, but it doesn't anymore.

None of this helped. I suspect a failure in the power supply. With the cover off, I observed that the mechanism will **** and move the dvd slightly. The laser does not move at all. I used to like Toshiba products.

The unit i purchased ran great for about 2 months then the video started to freeze. power cycled solved the problem initially, but when power cycling did not cure the problem, i started shaking and tapping the unit. at a point of throwing the unit away - took the cover off to see what's inside. with the cover off, it ran just fine . put the cover back, ran ok for a while then started freezing video again.
twisting the unit appears to make it function..
my solution that appears to work for my unit. .
loosen only the two screws holding the plastic drive mechanism down to the bottom plate (chassis) assumption is that the metal chassis was twisting the drive mechanism and offsetting the photo pickup.
this has worked for the past 2 weeks without a problem.

Either a mechanism problem or a problem with the Optical unit inside (optical pickup) being dirty or bad.

Put in disc keeps saying loading then no disc

The only things you can try are , clean the disc first then the laser (you can buy laser cleaner disks cheap) worth having one, if this fails it may nead a replacement laser drive.

Just wondering whether damp has affected the circuit boards.
Try putting it in a warm room plug it in and leave for 2 hours then try again.

Screen on TV shows Toshiba label and says there is no disc but a disc loaded in it

The laser unit has gone bad. Usually it's not worth replacing as it is about 3/4 the cost of a new player.

Won't load DVD

call support from manufacturer on how to reset your player,

For instance, on Samsung players after it is powered on you hold in both channel buttons for 10 sec and the player restarts. that fixed mine that had the same problem

WHEN DVD IS PLACED IN MACHINE IT KEEPS TRYING TO LOAD BUT NO PLAY

yes that is very possible. cleaning the lens of the dvd player should happen atleast once a month. it can also be that the lens itself is scratched or the lase does not reach the disk tracks due to dust or bad handling

Toshiba DVD SD-3980SU2 or SC2 player loads every disc as "bad disc"

Toshiba says:
Information for Owners of Toshiba SD-3980 and SD-K750 DVD Players spacer.gif To ensure the satisfaction of our customers and to maintain the integrity and quality of our products, Toshiba America Consumer Products, L.L.C. is issuing an important product update. This is not a safety issue.
Toshiba is committed to customer service and to continuously improving the quality of its products. It has come to our attention that certain DVD players bearing the model numbers SD-3980 and SD-K750 may at some point in their life stop playing discs due to a component part failure. In such case, the error message "bad" will be shown on the unit's display. Affected units will have "SU2" at the end of the model name (e.g., SD-3980-SU2), which can be found on the back of the unit.
If you own either of these models and experience the issue described above, please contact Toshiba Customer Solutions at 1-800-631-3811 for information on how to obtain a replacement unit.

Toshiba SD-K850 trouble

I contact Toshiba Service and they suggest to unplugg AC cord then wait for 3 minutes but this is not a real solution ("Bad" message). I already notice other Toshiba models have the same problems (SD-K750 & SD-3980), and they are replaced them because of component part failure. (my DVD is a SD-K850).
They also explain that if that process not work, I must call their
Service Dept. for more details, same phone # (1-800-631-3811).
Luck!

If the disk is not dirty, smudged up or scratched -- it is likely the laser pickup getting weak or the spindle motor not keeping at the right speed. If you have to clean the disc, wipe from the center out with a clean soft cloth.
