I have an emachines T2542 computer with a bad motherboard (Imperial G motherboard). I am wondering if I have to get an identical motheboard to replace mine if I want to boot up using my hard disc with WIN XP on it. I also don't want to lose what other programs I have installed on the hard drive, so I would like to be able to find a motherboard that will allow me to do this.
Hi, Your better off replacing the motherboard with an Emachine spare, this is because your hard drive will not notice the change when replaced so you can still use all your programs. If you was to get another motherboard with a different chipset or GPU (graphics processing unit) then chances are the operating system will not boot resulting in loss of data and programs due to a clean install. Go here, fill in the form and get a quote for a replacement motherboard>>

Can I obtain a schematic for an ASUS P4S800D-E Motherboard for the purpose of troubleshooting? I may have destroyed Q23 when my probe slipped and very briefly shorted pin 1 & 2(tab). The current problem is that my ohmmeter reads 0.4 ohms across pins 1 & 2 in either direction. When applying power, the power supply shuts down within 2 seconds.
