Panasonic dvd player won't show video (or anything) on tv

I have a panasonic DVD player and I am unable to get it to play through my new panasonic lcd tv. I just moved and have no idea how to hook this up. I plugged in the three color coded cables to the back of the dvd player and the same ones to the tv.. the dvd player turns on, but how do I get the dvd player to play on the tv? I have a remove from comcast, a remote for the tv and the dvd player. do I need another cable or something or am I doing something wrong with the remotes? Please help!
