Thomson 6717 2gb mp3 player will not play songs loaded onto it it tells me i need AAC upgrade firmware at www.rcaaudiovideo.com and there is no AAC download listed at that website

Firstly, is the Thomson 6717 the same as the RCA Pearl TH1602 ie are they made by the one company under different names for marketing in different countries. If so, go to the following site for a choice of three firmware downloads. Please advise if this works on your Thomson 6717.

Need aac upgrade for thomson 6717 mp3 player not sure how to do this

I have had the same problems with this the only solution i have come up with is not to load any music files with the extension m4a on it you will end up getting the error message on it. stick to only putting music files with mp3 extention on the files and you should not have a problem.

It needs aac upgrade

My RCA Pearl gave me the AAC firmware message with some files until I followed all the troubleshooting instructions that popup when running the firmware update software. The firmware with AAC upgrade is here.

Follow these instructions and it will work:

run the firmware update software software,
reset the player by removing the battery or holding the power button for 10s for players with internal batteries,
hold the play button while inserting the unit into usb,
release the button once the software changes from "searching" to "initalizing",
check the box to format the data on the player,
and click start.

When I did this update without formatting, the aac fix did not work. I

Keeps telling me need aac firmware upgrade from rcaaudiovideo

I kept getting the same aac firmware message until I followed the following steps:
I downloaded the firmware upgrade from http://voxrightnow.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2243/related/1, and followed all the troubleshooting instructions that popup when you start the program:

start the program,
remove the battery,
hold the play button while plugging into usb,
release the play button when the the term "initializing" replaces "searching",
click the start button to replace the firmware.

If your computer recognizes your pearl, then backup your music first and check the "format data" box. I couldn't play aac files without formatting while upgrading the firmware.

Need aac upgrade firmware for rca mp3 th1611-a same problem....can't return them, can't fix them....my 2 children are VERY dissapointed as this was their ONLY gift from Santa this year. If anyone can...

There is no AAC firmware upgrade. These players are not compatible with AAC (iTunes) format. Most non-iPod players are incompatible, but there are a few exceptions here and there. The box on the player has to list AAC, and it can't have a proviso attached to the AAC, such as "non-protected" AAC. The cashiers at the places that sell them don't know jack about compatibility, usually.
