Make sure the flash drive will work on a normal computer. If it does try a different port on the xbox. If it works on the computer and not the xbox you might have to format the flash drive to work with the xbox Go here USB flash drive support for Xbox 360 or USB flash drive support for Xbox 360
It was an issue before, around 2009. The console it self wont play any disc, XBOX came up with replacing the cd drive of the console but its not the simplest way to solve the issue. As part of the escalation department then, we found out that just simply using the usb port of the console to play music or at least a media was read by the console, you can resolve the issue. 1. Plug a USB flask drive or any mobile phone via USB to the xbox.2. Play any music from the external drive (flask drive or mobile phone that is connected via USB to the xbox)3. once music is playing, insert a disc in the cd drive.4. The xbox will read the cd this time for its currently acknowledging the media part of the connection5. Then you are good to go..

If you already have the Spring 2010 Dash Update for the Xbox 360 console this can be configured( go to Setting up your Xbox 360 with your USB Flash Drive). The update allows you to configure a flash drive to hold up to 16GB of Xbox 360 games, gamertags, videos, and other information. You can connect two USB storage devices to your console at once.
If you don't have it yet, you need to download the update:
To install the update through Xbox LIVE 1. On your Xbox 360 console, sign in to Xbox LIVE. 2. Select Yes, updated now when prompted. 3. When you see the new Dashboard, you're done. Setting up your Xbox 360 with your USB Flash Drive:1. Plug the USB flash drive to the Xbox 360 console. 2. On your console, go to My Xbox, and then select System Settings. 3. Select Memory. 4. One. Make sure the bar code on the band on the inner ring is perfectley clean and dusted. Two blow into the disc drive to make sure there is no dust on the laser. Three, get a professional to look at it such as a person at Game or at Gamestation. Four, try replacing the copy (NOT RECOMMENDED YOU COULD WASTE MONEY)
thats because its in mp3 format. you dont have to have a disc to get music on your 360. theres a usb outlet in the back of the xbox next to the av cable connecter. if you got a usb cord just hook it up to the xbox. you should then be able to download content.
