Re: Cant connect to PC

I have the same problem. Windows indicates that it sees the camera and for some unknown reason to me it refuses to install the drivers.

Here is Panasonic's support site. You should be able to find it there.

This Camcorder does not support USB streaming with the Windows 7 Operating System. Use an i.LINK cable to transfer the video to the Computer. The i.LINK port is also called IEEE 1394 or Firewire port. You can use any video capturing software like Windows Movie Maker to transfer the video from the Camcorder to the Computer. The Firewire to USB cable won't work with your camcorder, you will always end up with this error.
Click the link below for the instruction to transfer the video to the Computer using i.LINK cable.
You Sony vaio laptop doesn't have firewire ports ,in this case you will need to purchase and install an firewire card ..>>

If you are using a Windows XP Operating System then you have to install the USB Streaming Driver in the Computer from the supplied Software disk with the Computer.
Check this Link for the instruction to transfer video to a Computer using USB Streaming.
If you do not have the supplied Software disk then I suggest that you use the i.LINK cable to transfer the video.

Hi there cannot connect i link to my pc no connection on my pc any advice would help

Usually what you would do is buy a IEEE-1394 interface card and install it in your PC in an available slot on the motherboard. You can buy these for less than $20 and with a little tech knowledge about PCs many people can install the card themselves. The IEEE-1394 is called i.Link by Sony. If you are running Windows XP, or Vista, the drivers are already installed. Reboot PC and the new card should be recognized. Use the 4-pin to 4-pin firewire cable to connect camcorder to PC. You will need software to capture your video which should have been supplied by Sony with your camera. For Windows 7, you need to install LIVE Photo Gallery. Your camcorder was setup to work with Windows XP so an alternative may be to just find a friend with an older PC with a firewire card already installed running Windows XP. I just did this very same thing on my PC and it worked. Got the firewire card from for $3.95 VIA brand from Taiwan. I used Windows Movie Maker to capture video. Sony also sells a stand-alone DVD recorder which connects to a camcorder and requires no computer to create DVDs of your video.

The pc doesnt seems to detect my cam like it needs a driver or something i plug the firewire and nothing happens

This can be caused by several things. One common problem is a faulty cable. If you have another Firewire/1394 cable, try that.

A second problem is using the wrong cable. I don't remember if the VX2000 takes still photos, but if it does, many Sony camcorders have a USB connection for transferring the still photos. However, the USB connection will NOT transfer video.

A third problem is drivers. This is usually only a problem on older Windows computers. By older, I mean Windows 98, Windows ME, and the first generation of Windows XP (the first generation is "service pack 1"). However, if you have Windows XP and have done updates, then you probably have the correct driver. If you haven't done updates, then you need to get the update for Firewire/1394.

Finally, if you haven't tried re-booting the computer, that very often is needed -- especially with older (more than five years old) -- computers. Even with modern computers, the computer will often get into a state where it won't recognize peripherals. I recommend shutting off the computer completely, disconnecting the camcorder, and then turning off the camcorder. Then, re-start the computer and after it has booted, turn on the camcorder and after it is on, connect the Firewire/1394 cable between the camcorder and the computer.

Hopefully the camcorder connector is OK. I have broken several Sony Firewire connectors, and it costs about $300 to have them repaired.

Cannot download video, only Card pictures

I do not know MACs, but a standard 4-pin to 6-pin firewire (IEEE1394) is needed. On Windows XP, plug it in, run Windows Movemaker and you are good to go. By the way, a "DV cable" is a firewire cable.

If your MAC cannot "see" your camcorder, try another firewire device to see if your MAC is the culprit, or drag your camcorder and firewire cable to a friend's PC running Windows XP and see if it works.

Can not connect mini dv camcorder to sony vaio laptop

there are many post on various sites that state the same as you ihave the same prob with a sony which i paid £999,00 for and it wont connect i have been researching this problem for months on and of and cannot get any further, what may help you is some information that i have discovered , there are diffrent vers of firwire difrent baud rates this could be one reason for non detection ms sp1 has a diffrent ver to sp2 it is not easy to reinstall sp1 1394 as you need to diable cabbinet files to stop the reloading of the deleted sp2 speed 1394,ther are a few hotfixes avilable from ms on xp not suer about vista also if you plug a faster 1394 device into your machine it could diasble the slower ones , and now for the the killer any manufactur that incorporates 1394 in ther package has to purchase an extremly expensive license and microsoft are heavy into the development of usb stuf and are not concentrating on 1394 hence very little or no support, the only thing you could try is download virtual pc free from ms download site and install the op sys that pertains to the age of the cam good luck

Help loading video to computer

A problem in the Fire wire connections would presumably affect the quality in a quite severe way: you would get large blocks of wrong color or misplaced DCT blocks, the capture would fail altogether from time to time, or something like that. Check the plug in!! Daniel
