Dell Vostro 1000 will not boot.

When I try to turn this laptop on it gives me 1 green light and 3 or 4 red flashes and does not boot. No power up fans. Nothing at all. Just flashing lights

The battery did run the laptop fine till it went down. When I went to A/C and restarted this happened.

I have also tried another power supply thinking it was the problem.

Still get the same flashing code. And been unable to find any POST codes for this laptop anywhere on the net. Or anyone else having this problem.

Any ideas would be very helpful. Thanks

    I have a Dell Vostro 1000. The adapter no longer charges the battery and I have a red power indicator light. The laptop still works if I keep it plugged in. The battery indicator icon does not show that it is plugged in unless I remove the battery.

    Any suggestions as to the problem. Thanks in advance

It maybe the power adaptor is loose on the motherboard. Push the cord in and rotate it and continuously push the power button if it starts that is your problrm. You can temporarily fix it with tape once you discover where the cord wants to be or you can use a clamp.

The power buttons do wear out. Perhaps you need a new power button from like best buy. They have just two wires to attach.

older vostros usually have a broken dc jack right where the power connector plugs in. otherwise try another ac adapter and also try removing and replacing the battery underneath.

My dell vostro 1000 won't turn on the green light
Try to do this: (Draining flea power)
1. Unplug the ac adapter (if connected)
2. Remove the battery
3. Press and hold the power button for at least 10sec.
4. Put back the battery and ac adapter
5. Turn it on

- check if you can now boot to windows, if not there could be a hardware problem and next step would be running some diagnostic test on the computer for hardware problem.

Batt light flashes 4 red and 1 green over and over vostros laptop
Hi there. If your battery light is flashing 4 red and one green on the battery light indicator (as in the one next to the power and hdd led), then this is an indication that your battery is nearing the end of it's life, and it's time to get a new one. It will last a bit longer, depending on how much you use your laptop, but there will come a time when it won't work at all.

Update Dell Vostro 1000 BIOS now wont turn on, nothing on display
You may be in for some trouble, a failed bios update isn't always an easy fix. if you can find the cmos battery try to remove that for a few seconds. you will also need a disk version of the bios, download that from dell on another computer and copy it to floppy or cd and see if you can boot to that and reinstall the bios.

when you press the power button what happens, does it light up and run the fan? Nothing appears on the screen?
